PP58 Mid vs Superstroke Pistol GTR Tour

DUBSTEP

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have both or experience with both?

How do they compare in diameter mainly and also in overall feel on long putts?

As a bonus, if anyone could compare the Winn Midsize grips that would be great

Thanks

I have used all 3 in the past year. I will share my experiences with each.

I didn't have the Winn midsize on for long. It was very tacky which was great but that tackiness doesn't last very long. The Winn midsize also has a very pronounced oval shape. I found that the shape resulted in my stroke being very right hand dominant (I'm right handed) and more wristy.

I had been using the PP58 midsize from March up until 6 weeks ago. As you probably know, the PP58 midsize is considered by most to be the holy grail of putter grips, The nearly completely circular shape of the PP58 midsize fit my hands much better than the Winn midsize. It was also less tacky and had more of a rubber feel to it.

I personally however, have 2 minor issues with the PP58 midsize. 1. While I prefer the more circular shape of the PP58 to the more oval-shaped Winn, I found that my grip pressure was more inconsistent with the PP58. This was due to the fact that the PP58 has no sides or edges at the back of the grip whereas the Winn did. 2. I think that the PP58 midsize has a relatively firm feel to it and as a result, I tended to sometimes hold the putter frimer than I should.

Please note that I'll always have some minor issue with any putter grip compared to another. The perfect putter grip probably doesn't exist in my eyes.

I have been using the SS GTR Tour for around 6 weeks now. I feel that I get the best of both worlds shape-wise as it is not as circular as the PP58, it doesn't have a pronounced oval shape like the Winn midise and it has 2 sides/edges at the back that promotes more consistent grip pressure for me. It is also softer than the PP58 midsize but not mushy soft.

To answer your 2 questions, they are very similar in diameter. I would say that there is less than a tenth of an inch between them but the GTR is obviously non-tapered. I am definitely better and my feel is better with the pistol GTR from 8 feet in and I would say that I am marginally worse and have slightly less fell with lag putts. For example, I may be leaving a 30 footer a foot away from the cup with the PP58 midsize whereas my putts with the GTR tend to be 2-2,5 feet away from the cup. I am without doubt holing more from 8 feet in with the GTR so right now, the GTR is the better option for me. I know its Superstroke's claim to fame but I'm less wristy as well with the GTR which probably explains why I'm pushing and pulling putts less from 8 feet in.

I will be gaming the Superstroke GTR Tour pistol for the foreseeable future. You should note that I was never a fan of the traditional, circular superstrokes or the Flatso.

Hope that helps.
