Ping Mid-Mallets

Curious who’s using / used a Ping slight arc mid-mallet, specifically the Sigma Piper 3 and Vault Arna. Looking at adding one of these to my collection and seeking some feedback. Neither model is available locally to demo. Thanks

I recently bought an Arna on faith since my local shop didn't have one either. I usually switch it up between a few different Anser's and a Sigma G Ketch but I'm smitten by the Arna now. The line on the back helps with alignment but doesn't distract my eye like it does on larger mallets. And the putter just exudes quality, unlike the Sigma G I must say. Money well spent!

I have the Piper 3. I don't necessarily love the feel of if. Definitely does not feel high end, but it also was inexpensive. I picked it up second-hand for under $100 and I often buy and resell used putters.

 

But it is an excellent model. Easy to aim, rolls well. The half-moon is my shape -- I just can see the line better with them. I like the way the alignment frames the ball. I was not fitted for it, just like the shape. It most likely will be included in my upcoming annual winter digital garage sale!

 

The Arna is the nicer of the two. Milled and beautiful. I wish these putters came with 370 gram heads.

I have an Arna and love it. Really prefer the look of the mid slant neck vs the slant/flare neck. The milling is great. I have a UST frequency shaft that pairs well with it.

Since starting this thread, I’ve purchased (and subsequently sold) both the Arna and Piper 3. I’d echo what was said above: the Arna was better quality and felt more solid. Being a life-long Anser guy, it was just a tad too big for me though. The Piper 3 was a better size and fit for me. Problem was, like dmeeksDC, I wasn’t keen on the feel or the finish of the Sigma line. I’ve read rumors of a Piper model in the Vault 2.0 line, so we’ll see....

That was the bummer for me: The Piper looks better than it feels. But it is a great, compact mallet size for anyone who has been an anser or Rossi Ii-style user for a long time, which describes me.

 

A Piper in Vault would be hard to resist.

 

There is a lovely milled half-moon putter out there made by Argolf, the Avalon. I have rolled it and it feels great. A little pricey at $349-$399. Top-grade materials and the sole is really well done. It glides. Made by French aeronautics engineers. Kenny Perry and Rocco game their putters. I may yet try this one. Has a great, dull finish.
