Poser Bag WITB for 2018-2020

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen noticeably better numbers with recent driver/fairway wood releases, so no new clubs until 2020. Unless I find a Nike Mod 90. Or PXG Dagger. Or Fourteen FK-3.

My last WITB was in January 2015, nearly 3 years ago. Time for an update.

Let's start by addressing the elephant in the room: My name is not Carlton Forrester. My previous bag was an original Ping Hoofer that I got in 7th or 8th grade. As you can imagine, it was long in the tooth, but $175 for a new bag didn't make sense so I kept an eye out for a Hoofer 2 or 3 in good condition, and that's when I found this gem on Ebay. At the exact same time, I came across another black Hoofer 2 at a Play It Again Sports, but Forrester played at Georgia Tech at the same time as Matt Kuchar and I was at Georgia Tech for 11 years, so I had no choice but to get this one.

Titleist 915 D3 8.5*, Mitsubishi Diamana Ahina 72 x-stiff tipped 1", playing 45.5". I've had this shaft since my 910 D3 because I haven't found anything better. It used to be 45" but after Rory McIlroy said he saw an increase in distance without losing accuracy, I added a 1/2" extension about a year and a half ago and have seen the same.

Titleist 915F 15*, Aldila Rogue Black 80 x-stiff. Titleist 915F 19*, Grafalloy Epic T90 x-stiff tipped 1.25".

Titleist 716 MB (4-PW), Dynamic Gold X100. I carried 3-PW for a decade (1, 3-PW and 2, 4-PW before that) but almost all the top players in proximity to the hole <125 yds carry 4 wedges so I gave in. These are a nice "upgrade" from my previous 712 MB's but I hate how much offset they have. Seriously, Titleist, :WTF:

Vokey SM6 52F, TVD 56K, TVD 60M, Dynamic Gold S400. The 56K is actually a 54K but when I made the decision to switch to 4 wedges, it didn't make sense to get rid of a perfectly good wedge. In deciding whether to bend the 54K to 52* or 56*, a 56* with a K grind is a perfect bunker club and matches the progressive CG design introduced in the SM6. Also, lightly used 52F's are much easier to find.

Bullseye Flange 34", Ping O-Blade 35.5". As a junior golfer, I putted lights out with my Newport 2 TeI3. But while I still love that head shape, I seem to putt better these days without offset. I mean, look at those address position photos. So clean, so square. The Bullseye is the gamer, but I came across the O-Blade for $15 so I pretty much had to buy it. Besides, you can't pick up balls with the Bullseye, something I unironically care about because I'm actually crazy.

@Yellow Jacket,

I remember your old WITB and it was stacked then... I'd tone the shafts down a flex, or two, and play everything you have. Play well!

Great bag all the way around--- I am a big fan of old school styled battle banged up putters. I actually have examples of both of yours in my putter collection of over 100 putters. Found it amusing in my own anti yuppie way the covers on the older gamed putters. Could imagine you trotting up to the first tee with your set up and when you got to the first green pulling one of your covers off the old putters. Talk about shock with the prim and proper crowd. Wow not wanting to offend you or anyone else I just thought it was amusing a Circle T cover on a $15 30 year old A blade. I just may try the same trick in 2 weeks when I play in an annual event. Put a fancy Scotty cover on my rusty lead taped banged up Santa Fe. I do own a stock 3 dot Scotty cover some one gave me as a joke. I just may do that.

Last year we pulled a similar gag in that tournament. We had 4 guys staged beside us that could have been poster children for Titleist all Titleist bags clothes etc and fancy Scotty putters. They were messing with the Scotty weight kits and making a big deal over it. My boss was on my team hollered real loud "Hey Stuie you got a Scotty weight kit?" I dug into my old school Titleist mini staff bag and produced a roll of lead tape. Everyone around us who knew us laughed those guys were not amused in the least

Do not want to really offend anyone just having fun in Stu's World and if you ask most folks on this end of the beach they will swear I have a screw loose
