Junior Match Play Events

Where can I find some in Ontario?

I've never played match play in my life. I want to try and find match play events that don't require you to be one of the best juniors in the world just to qualify.

I've heard match play is usually how junior tournaments are/were played in Europe, and I really like that idea.

However, the only match play tournaments I could find were GAO tournaments that you need to qualify for.

All I have seen is ones you have to qualify for. Just go out and try to make it though.

Where do you live in ON and how old are you? I just finished a match play tournament earlier this week. If you're 16 or younger, and live in the Southwestern region of ontario (Windsor, Tecumseh, Chatham, Essex, Kingsville, etc.), there's a tournament called the Essex Kent Boys Golf Tournament (girls are welcome too though, that was just the original name and I guess they don't want to change it).

 

Anyhoo, you play either 9 or 18 holes the first day (depending on your ability) and you're placed in flights depending on your scores. In the match play portion (the 2nd and 3rd day), it's one-loss elimination. It sucks when you lose, but it happens. You play the people in your flight- if you win, you move on to another guy in your flight who won his match. If you win that, you play again the next morning in the finals of your flight. It's a REALLY fun tournament.

I'm a decent player that plays well sometimes, and then can hack it up the next day. I'm starting to practice more, and might take lessons over the winter. I'm a good putter most of the time, but my ballstriking is really iffy. I would say I shoot around 78-80 on a 6000yd course. Would I be able to make it to match play in these other tournaments next year if I chiseled my scores down to, say, mid-70s to high-70s?

go to www.cjga.com and click on Ping Match play or somethin, read about it and see if u will like it, most of the better players are playing in the ontario matchplay during the same time period that event is on so that cjga event is a good place to be if your a guy shooting mid to high 70's.

My friend won the ont jr match play this year, run by the GAO. He is the streakiest player I know and i usually beat him so that kinda bugged me. But yah...the GAO you have to shoot about 75-76 to get in and once your in anything can happen. Im a hack and i made it to the round of 16.

lol my buddy lost to hicks, he was pretty bitter about it and couldint figure out how he lost... said the guy drained like bombs from everywhere.
