Best putter for pencil grip

Hi Guys,

 

I have been putting with the pencil grip for about 10 years now and have a fair bit of success and feel pretty comfortable with it. Every so often I revert back to a traditional grip and the results are not as good (I really have a lot better feel on the longer puts with a traditional grip).

 

Recently I have started to wonder if I could get more success with a different putter. I currently game a Newport 2 with the old ping grip, however i wonder if it is too light and I'd be better of with a heavier putter and a different shape.

 

I guess I am asking for anyone who has a similar problem (the Y word) and has gone down this route and what's worked best for them? Partly asking now as the boss is asking about xmas pressies and thought it may be a good time to invest in a putter.

 

Appreciate any advice or recommendations.

I am using a TM DJ spider with the pencil grip and really like it. I might try a Center shaft oddessey #7 and see how it works as well

In my opinion, the change to a pencil grip won’t change what type of putter works best for you. Go get fit!

Probably something lighter IMO, as you will be able to keep it more stable given the pencil grip has only 2 fingers on the bottom of the grip. Plus something small as far grip, probably a ping TW style grip. Could be wrong, just my thoughts.

I use a standard 104cc Golf Pride Contour SNSR with a pencil grip which works well, going to try a Superstroke GTR Pistol on another.

 

I find an accentuated pistol shape works better at assisting the left hand to stay involved in the stroke and preventing the bottom hand taking over.

I use same grip style

 

Scotty x7m with 25g weights is a nice heavy and smooth head

 

Putter grip is iomic mid- size

 

For me, heavier is better but I came from using a right hand pencil grip on 46" long putters .. that have 400g heads

Tommy Fleetwood seems to roll it pretty well with an Odyssey white hot pro 6 and superstroke 2.0
