The No Ace Club - How close did you get this year?

I think any golfer who's played the game long enough and hasn't got a hole in one has many many many stories of close calls.

Had 3 good runs this year. Put one just short on the edge of a cup sitting down wind. Still no idea how it stayed. The second one I rolled over the edge of the cup and ended up about 6 inches behind the cup. The last one only 3 people have ever had a hole in one on this hole it is an uphill par 3 that is 212 and plays about 235. I normally just hit a smooth 2 iron, but decided I'd try to smoke a 4 because it was a little down wind. It landed about 2 feet short of the hole and managed to check. How I got a drawing 4 iron from 230 to check is beyond me, but someone saw it check because it is a blind shot and they were stunned.

this guy was on #4 at Clark Sun Valley Public Course. A 138 yard 7-iron for me... in February.

 

 

 

 

and then this fella was a 116 yard 9-iron on the 11th at South Forbes in Cavité... three or four days prior.

 

 

 

 

so two shots inside one collective foot from the hole -- inside a week! -- and haven't hit one closer than 7-8' the rest of the year...

Within a foot about 5 times. Lipped out a couple times. And just this week, 206 yd par 3, 20 mph wind in the face. Hit a 4wd hit the stick on the fly, and.....

 

 

Shot right 25ft and rolled to the front of the green. Hit so solid didn't even leave a ball mark near the hole. Stupid hole in one. 17 years of golf. Not one damn time.

Make it 43 years for me. Hit it inside kickin 20+ times this last season. Holed out for eagle twice but no dice on an ace. Next year for sure.

Landed a ball 1 inch to the right of the hole on a short par 3 - almost a slam dunk. Ended up about a foot away - closest I have ever come.

Before this weekend, my only comment would have been 'not very close' since I hit the green only about 1/3 of the time, much less get anywhere close to the pin.

 

Yesterday I put the ball about 10 inches from the pin. 118 yards, pitching wedge, green sloping left to right and back to front. Divot was 3 feet left of the hole and the ball stopped on the right side of the hole so it had to have missed by inches. We couldn't see the hole from the tee so we don't really know how close it came.

I have been playing golf since about 1965. That's 52 years. So that's a LOT of golf with a LOT of people.

 

I have not had a hole in one. No one I have played with has had a hole in one.

 

That strikes me as remarkable.

 

(This year, closest was about 18" - 7 iron from 150 ish).

7th hole at mine, plays about 165 with a severely sloping back down to front green, pin is always at the front, i hit a 6 iron (must have been windy that day....), pitched it over the pin, spun back, rolling down kind of diagonally right past and round the top of the hole to about 4 foot. From the tee i really thought i had it.. Been playing since i was about 9 y/o am now 37.. HIO still eluding me

Today was the closet I ever came to a HIO. Been golfing since I was 12; am 40 now. Was playing with my Dad today. Got to the first par three. 145 down wind. Hit the shot and it just felt perfect off the club. Hits the green, one hop, and hits the flag stick about a foot above the hole, and drops down 1 inch from the hole.

Not real close in 2017. To 4 feet, 2 days ago, and a lot others like that through the year. Let's face it, the ace is overrated. A mate of mine got his first a few weeks back, and slumped into a depression afterward! I am not kidding.

I had 2 at Dove canyon less than a foot number 10 and number 12. Then at my home course in FL I was close a few times.

Only had one really "close" shot this year. 168 yard Par 3 by the scorecard, middle right pin position on a generous raised green. Hit a great feeling 6 iron that ended up about 4 inches right and 6 inches past the hole. Lone bright spot in an otherwise miserable round.

I've been playing since I was 12, which puts year one around 1984. VERY Conservative average of 50 rounds since then, which is 1,700 rounds. Many years were 125 documented rounds, so I'm sure 50 is slim. First one ever today. Plenty of room left for you to chalk 3 or 9 more.

Two weeks ago, 122 yds to the pin with a backstop. Flew it just over the flag, hit the back stop about 4 feet behind the hole. It spin back off the back stop to just 3" to the side of the cup. Still searching for that first one.

At Dakota Dunes, 3 ball lengths from the hole. However, the path it took there wasnt pretty. Hit a steep side off the green and bounced toward the hole.....shot was crap through the air before I realized what it was rolling towards after the ricochet.

 

Was within 3 feet of an albatross on a 530 par5 as well.
