Stitch SL1 stand bag

Recommended Posts

I know that this is a great bag for walking but how does it do on a cart (both push and electric)? A lot of guys I play with insist on taking one and some of the courses around here even require them on weekends. Would love to pick one up but curious how they stand up to being strapped in. Thanks in advance for any insight.

It's fine for both. I clic when it's really raining so I can walk under an umbrella easily.

I really like the bag, I prefer it over my titleist 4up.

I have the Titleist 4up... what, specifically, do you prefer with the Stitch SL1 vs. it? I'm considering walking my course again next season and want to determine if carrying vs. a push cart is the way to go (although I suspect the SL1 would work just fine on a push cart). Thanks!

I have had two 4ups, but my two major issues with it are the strap and the stand/base. I realize it come with a single strap, I would never use it unless I was a looper. I tend to just toss it on one shoulder unless I have a significant walk, but it does tend to slip, whereas the SL1 doesn't at all.

The stand+base is awesome in theory, but terrible in practicality. The legs tend to sag (I've found this to be an issue when the bag is fairly full?). I sent my last one back because the stand never fully retracted. This was also an issue with the sta-dry premier.

Also, the SL1 fits much better on a Clicgear. I hate that it will occasionally rub the base of the bag unless you strap your bag in sideways. Way to miss the boat, Titleist.

With all that said, I prefer the SL1 because super easy to carry and more minimalist. Fewer pockets means less stuff to squirrel away unless it's absolutely necessary.

I'll likely take 3 different bags to Bandon in February, my 4up, SL1, and a Ping moonlight. I have used my SL1 a few times in the rain, it holds up pretty well. I still think the 4up will hold up better at Bandon.

Very nice looking bag! My concern is the white leather turning into a yellowish tint after a season. How is it holding up for you?

I've only had it for a 3 months or so, but I don't foresee it being a problem.

If I had to buy it at full boat ($325), it might give me pause, but the cost was pretty reasonable at my club (~$220).

The material is amazingly durable and cleanable. I thought mine was getting some little black marks on the white from being on a cart occasionally etc and it all wiped off w a rag and a little water.

Ok, I am aware I’m late to the game on this thread. I am debating ordering the SL1. I currently have the original jones carry bag (no stand) and a Titleist stand bag. I like the simplicity of the Jones but the stand on the Titleist. For the SL1 how does it handle the cart strap, I walk during the week but my course requires a cart weekends before noon. Also, I take a cart when my son (6 yrs old) plays. Does the cart straps scratch the bag?

Thank you.

Mine works fine for walking or riding. The material doesn't really mark up much, most everything basically washes off in my experience. If you like the simplicity of a Jones but want a little more opening room this is a great option. Not a ton of pocket space like on the Titleist you mention, but if you plan ahead of time it's fine. For the water bottle, I usually use a larger Nalgene bottle which wouldn't fit anyway and I just carry it in hand or stick in a side pouch.

The white bag can show some wear if you are yanking the cart strap tight on it all the time. I do it carefully to

avoid this from happening. Dark colored bags should not be an issue. The material wipes down easy for clean up. Magic erasers work well on the white if you get a stubborn smudge or dirt. I’ve had mine for a year and it looks new. Lots of walking rounds and some cart rounds.

Just saw one of these at a store in my city. I’m wondering how light it feels fully loaded with 14 clubs. Also, has anyone gotten a rainsuit (jacket and pants) folder and in one of the packets. Seems well made, very sharp looking.

I take mine to Bandon and yes, I can put my proquip px5 suit in one of the pockets. I will admit, I was wrong about how it'd hold up in the rain. I found that the waterproofing is much better than my sta-dry.

Thanks, your information was helpful. Just needed to make sure it would hold my rain jacket and pants (if folded well). The waterproofing is a nice bonus.

I went ahead and purchased the black SL1. It works well with the Grey & Black Stitch headcovers I already had. I am thinking about adding a black Jones strap at some point!

Both bags are very well made using quality materials. The differences however are clear in the design of two bags. The Stitch is a classic simplistic two way top bag design of modern materials with a focus on weight and easy carry, while the Vessel bag is a modern more technical bag design with a 6way top, a focus on modern convenience with a acceptable weight. The Stitch bag has very clean lines with minimal storage while the Vessel is clearly a modern multi-pocket bag with plenty of storage and modern convenience. Stitch offers a good many color options standard, while Vessel has limited standard color options, they do offer a fully custom option.

Wow! Really?

I just stumbled upon this thread and checked the bag out on the Stitch site and it looks well cool.

Like you I have a 4UP Stadry and have been impressed with it's ability to handle the rain.

The Stitch base is solid vs the 4UP's malleable one? I swap out to my Ping Monsoon when I'm sure I am using my Clicgear as that 4UP base is not solid enough to put on nicely.

Absolutely. The base is solid plastic. I just think the fabric lends itself better to waterproofing. I used it in some really bad rain+wind at sheep ranch last February. Between my proquip suit and my bag, I was the only one of the 10 of us who stayed dry.

Also, a folded up towel under a 4up on your clicgear perches it perfect. No rubbing or weird angling of your bag.

Thanks for the top tip on the towel.

I'll have to hum and haw about it now or sign up and hope for some discounts, as 3 bills plus for something that will take a beating is a tough call.

If you're a member at a club, see if they can open an account. The wholesale price is much lower. I think a normal member price on a bag is ~$225-250

^Ya I'm going to have a nose around to see if I can find a list of Stitch retailers/club pro shops, as I doubt I could convince the city of Austin to open up an account ;)

I bought a Stitch bag for my trip to Scotland. Did make one modification - took off the strap and replaced it with a Jones padded version.

I got numerous comments from the caddies on the trip. They loved the bag - both carrying it and the “old school” look. There was plenty of room for my rain gear and a few balls and tees. The fact that it is waterproof was HUGE on a couple of days.
