Not a lot of difference between the 765 and 965 in terms of forgiveness.

Nope, there's not. I actually opted for the 965's because I was more consistent with them.

maybe next time around i do a 765/965 split. i went with the 565/765 but the 765 are so forgiving and beautiful i didnt need the extra forgiveness of the 565. Very happy now because there is nothing to say bad about 565, but i would have been just as happy with a full set of 765, they are that good.

Totally agree, I hit the 745's better than the 545's actually. Unbelievably forgiving for their size.

Loved my 745s. 945s were even better, and are still my gamers. They's starting to show some wear after three years. 965s just didn't look right to me. I'll have to replace them in 2018, so hopefully the 985s will fit the bill. Otherwise, I'll look for a gently used set of 945s.

Is this for sure. 985's... Release in March. Only asking because I will wait for them. Just haven't read that it is confirmed.

965 is an improvement over the 945 IMO. I do not like square boxy looking irons. They rounded the 965 more and I find that shape easier to aim. Less weight toward the hosel. The sole is a lot better. I really do not like the v-sole as it looks on the 545 or 945, especially at the heel. They toned it down for the 565/965.

You are in the minority good sir but that’s how golf works. Z945s are an all time great iron. Give me square and boxy all day!

I agree with this 100%. I must admit I do like the 945’s overall look better but from a playability standpoint the 965’s are definitely a winner.

If Srixon is listening and watching sales then they would be smart to change the irons back to more the 45 and less the 65. It's a big year for them as they can either disappear or save the momentum they generated from the 45 iron series.

I love the feel of 765 but they're a little big and thick topline I think not sure on the v sole too. Great feeling though.

They didn't make 745 in LH?

No, 565, 765 were their first lefty offering other than the cast models I believe! Hope the next z models are offered in lefty as well!

I wouldn't say the 765 is chunky or big anywhere but I did just add a 965 PW because I thought the wedge was a little bulbous and offset a little too much for my liking. The new one looks much better to my eye. Can't wait to hit it when it's not -20* here....

Also, are the head weights listed anywhere for these?

Agree entirely with this. 965 are much better. Much improved sole, better playability and better weight distribution.

I really do not believe I am necessarily in the minority, except on WRX. WRX is not representative of the real world. On here you will see a focus on features that I feel make golf harder (such as a fixation on low-spin shafts or straight leading edges on wedges.) Certain clubs get cult followings on here but many great clubs don't.

Why is Ping G400 a lot more popular as a GI model than the Wilson C300 Forged? Who knows? But the C300 looks better to my eye. I would never even consider a boxy offset club like the G400. If the new Wilson said Ping on it, it would take off in sales with its innovative design hailed as great engineering.

People love to label the first generation as the best of any club, but the 565/765/965 are less chunky and the refined v-sole is better IMO. I have played them both. I owned the 545 and sold them. Did not like the chunky look. Thought the turf interaction on the long irons was grabby. I did like the 745 part of that combo set better. But the 965 won me over. Nice balance, nice refinements by Srixon. The 945 is clearly the best of the first group, but I don't see it as an all-time great to which the 965 cannot compare. I don't doubt I could happily play 745/765/945/965 and all would be fine. These are preferences. I'm left-handed in many things -- writing, ping-pong, bowling, eating -- but I am a right handed golfer and thrower. So maybe it is just my eye.

Some players look at the 945 vs 965 and decide based on how the clubs look, and that does matter. But yes, I have never gone for the square look. I like the rounded lines as a contrast to the clubface grooves for aiming. There are plenty of players who are like me. And it is your brain that decides it -- even in a putter fitting, a head with a rounded back edge was the most accurate for me. It may sound nuts, but for some people, too many square lines can make a club hard to square up. Optical illusions.

Fair points, but wrx or real life, more people like z945. Tour reflection both mini tour and pros reflect that too.

Notice how almost all oems have drifted back towards squared irons and straight leading edges - Titleist mb, apex mb, mizunos new line. Even the latest wedge designs are leaning towards the square design and straight leading edges = sm6, md3 forged, mizuno T7.

Maybe minority was the wrong word. But my point stands.

As far as the obsession for better player products on wrx. It’s because guys are actually decent players here, some don’t want to accept that. Die hard golf fans, enthusiasts and life long players are more inclined to write on wrx than someone with a ball retriever. They have different needs and most of them do genuinely require those low spin shafts, certain visuals etc.

Z945 are an all time great iron. Not saying Z965 isn’t superb in its own way. But check the 945 thread, it’s pure love. More staffers played the 45 series for extended time than the 65. Must be something to that

Thought I'd just mention this. Many players I've noticed have a preference based on lateral CG. The guys who miss on the toe prefer the 765 and the heel guys like the 745. That's one of the biggest differences between the two versions. Some guys think one feels better than the other because they impact the "sweet spot" slightly differently based on their swing.
