Oakley Prizm Golf versus Field

e-man

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I know there are a number of thread/posts out there about this topic. But I'm looking for some more recent experiences.

I have Flak 2.0 with gray polarized RX lenses (17% VLT, maybe a tad darker because they are RX). They are great on the course on sunny days, and for most non course outdoor stuff, but most of my rounds are early morning or early evening, and the gray polarized are just too dark.

So today I ordered a pair of flak 2.0 with prizm golf RX lenses. I tried both the prizm golf and prizm field, and I actually liked the way the prizm field looked looking out, but I didn't care for the way they looked from the outside and i was also afraid that they might be too dark (VLT is 15%, I believe).

Can anyone comment on the difference between the two? Would the prizm field be ideal for low light early morning or early evening rounds?

I have used the Prizm golf for the last 2 seasons. They have been awesome because they are not too dark for cloudy days and work great in full sun. You should have no problems with low light

Exactly. I play in the full blazing sun and also with the onset of winter, in dimming evening and I literally still wear them to the end. They're rx as well. All the tech of Prizm in rx, gotta luv that :)

Thanks guys. I probably need to decide by the end of the day today whether to stick with prism RX order or hedge and go with the field. My concern with the field is that they will be too dark in the early morning and evening (which is the problem I have now with the gray). I think I'll head back over to LensCrafters and ask to take the frames outside of the mall so I can see them outside. It's a sunny day here in Chicago today (2 degrees, but sunny).

I have two pair of Oakleys with Prizm Golf lenses and I will echo the positives mentioned here. They're so good in all light conditions that it doesn't feel right to play without them.

I've got the prizm golf lenses in my flaks and have nothing bad to say about them. They work well in almost all types of light and are very easy on the eyes. I've got the prizm everyday lenses in my day to day sunglasses and love those equally.

I have over 5 different pair of PRIZM lenses.

The first time I tried them I made custom Flak Jackets with the Baseball InField Prizm. They are designed to make white (like a baseball) pop against grass. I played awful in them.

Then got Golf PRIZM. I hate that you can see my eyes but they are great. Especially in low light situations. I play a lot o twilight golf and never had an issue.

I would also recommend the Road PRIZM if you want something that blocks out more light and does a good job accentuating the ball and all that.

I also have a pair of PRIZM field, but I was running into the same thing that the PRIZM InField was doing to me. It's almost like the ball is magnified and it warped my perception when standing over the ball. Sounds weird, I know.

I'm lucky since I don't have to invest in a lense with RX so I can swap between all these.

So in short. PRIZM golf is great for low light. I play twilight which would be similar to your early morning rounds.

Thanks a lot for your post. I had never thought about this but it makes perfect sense. The same filter that makes the white baseball pop against a blue sky would make the golf ball stand out at address before you swing.

Based on the comments in this thread, and my own in store testing, I'm going to leave my order as is for the RX prizm golf. I'll post back on this thread when the come in (although it'll be 4 months in Chicago before we get out there).

I bought some XLJs with the Prizm Golf lenses. I think they’re very good in partial sun or twilight, butbfor full sun, I found them way to bright to be comfortable.

I picked up the Prizm Firkd lenses and found them much better for bright conditions.

How are the field in overcast or lower light conditions on the golf course?

I use fields in full sun and take them off with medium or low sun. They're ok if left on, not great or terrible, but I prefer not to have anything on if not full sun.

The prizm golf made my eyes uncomfortable because of the color gradient (peripheral different than central, so each eye would see different colors if I didn't look exactly through the center), but this doesn't seem to bother most people.

The field either don't have that gradient or it's not substantial.

I much prefer the Prizm field lens for brighter days. I use the golf lens for overcast/partly sunny.

I really like the golf prizm lense except for really early in the season when the grass is not totally green. That lense and dormant grass just has a burned out look to it that gives me a headache.

Glad to hear that Oakley is now offering a Prizm Golf Dark. I too use RX lenses and the original Golf RX lens in my Flaks was perfect for all day in almost any condition. I also wear contacts and have 2 pairs of Flak 2.0's, one with Prizm Golf and recently the Prizm Field both NON-RX. I actually prefer the Field lens as the Prizm Golf is WAAAAAY too bright for my eyes. When I have the contacts in, I can simply remove the Fields in the early morning or later evenings.
