HELP!

I am a 17 year old English golfer who is playing off scratch (english handicapping system) and i am looking to go to college in America next year. At the moment i play golf at least 3 times a week because the weather is so bad here and i train in the gym at least 5 times a week, i am physically fit and 5'11. I would like a college with a good golfing programme. Can anyone reccomend any good colleges to suit the level i am playing at. Thank you for your help.

Are you part of the EGU junior set up, in the England Boys squad? What big tournaments have you played in, British boys, Henry Cooper and so on and what are your results? Handicaps are fairly meaningless Stateside for college golf.

What year are you? Are your SAT and GPA high?

This is such a broad question there really is no way to go about just giving you a list of colleges to look at. If I were you I would make a list of criteria for colleges:

where in the country do you want to be in?

a lot of times schools in the south tend to be more competitive than schools in the north

What size school do you want?

Bigger school will be much more competitive than smaller school (generally speaking of course)

What schools can you look at academically?

Do you want a Division 1,2, or 3 school?

D1 is a huge commitment of time and energy, they basically own you. D3 is much more relaxed as far as practicing but can still be VERY competitive.

After you find what you want in a college then start looking for colleges that fit your criteria and email those coaches.

Just going off of you being a scratch golfer and not knowing anything about your tournament play I would say you could definitely play at a lot of D2 and D3 schools. D1 gets a little more complicated, maybe a big name D1 school will be a reach those kids have been recruited and are shooting mid-high 60s regularly. But there are plenty of D1 schools you could also contribute to.
