I am interested to see and hit them as well. I am still gaming my first set of irons, the Ping G20s. They have gotten me down to an 11, but being 7 years old, it's probably time for an upgrade. I think I'm still soundly in the GI realm, and I am a Ping fan, so it will be between the G700s, G400s, and G Series as to which I game next.

If anyone has any input as to whether they believe switching to any of those 3 from the G20s would be a significant upgrade, I would appreciate it.

The more I think about it I believe this is Ping's shot across the bow of PXG. We all know the two companies have a history and certainly not love lost. These are a direct threat to 0311XF and even though they're a little pricey by Ping OTR standards they're almost 1/3 the cost of an 0311XF. I started playing Pings back with the BeNi ISI and have left the fold a few times only to come right back. I have owned the XF but $ for $ Ping is a helluva value and really is tops in the golf industry. I'm not saying Ping is copying PXG however they want to remind the entire golfing public they are a gold standard. Full Disclosure: I've already ordered my set of G700.

Just another chunky iron offering from Ping.

Great irons for 16 cappers!

OR old guys who are trying to maintain a 7.

BTW - I'll take a set of SGI any day. Ping G10's have allowed me to score in the 60's!! Blades, Players, GI or SGI have absolutely nothing to do with the how low you can score.

I score even par all the time with SGI Ping G10's

Amen. The ball doesn't care what iron is hitting it. Golf is hard enough to worry about whether a feather will hook your ball into a hazard. I'll take more forgiving any day of the week.

What do you guys do about gapping with a set of lofts like this. I currently game Ping G20s as an 11 cap and my bag looks like this.

The G700s would replace my 5-GW, but the gapping does away with an entire club. Where would you work in a 14th club?

I am not sure if I’d like the sound (feel) if a hollow iron in the scoring irons, but this might be a nice long iron replacement or even a driving iron option for those who don’t really like the size of the Crossover. Looks wise, they fit in perfectly with the i blade and the i200 and with the power spec and retro spec options it would be really easy to build a combo set with proper gapping.

I play G25's right now. I am going to try out the G700's and order them 1˚ weak. That should put you pretty close. I play a Vokey 50˚, 54˚, and 58˚ with Ping wedge at 45˚.

Just another chunky iron offering from Ping.

They did look good but by themselves in a picture I couldn't really relate to their size until I saw a website with a G700 next to a G400. Holy Cow they are big which I couldn't see before comparison pic.

Yeah, hopefully they have the rumored "retro" option to weaken the lofts 2 degrees.

I'm just personally puzzled at the loft trends, industry-wide with the GI sets. I'm not one of the people that cares about the number on the bottom of the club. I hit a 30 degree club ~ 160 yards. Its irrelevant to both me and my scorecard as to whether it says 5, 6 or 7 on the bottom of it. A 30 degree club is a 30 degree club.

I'm more so worried about gapping issues. With my Ping G20 set, 23 degrees to 58 degrees is covered by 10 clubs (4-LW). Now it is covered by 9 (5-LW). A Ping G700 set with my current bag would be:

1. 10.5 degree driver

2. 15 degree 3W

3. 19 degree 3H

I understand that people get frustrated with the loft changes over the years. What really frustrates me is the the iron lengths getting jacked over the years. 37.5" five iron became 38" and even 38.5".

Look where we are now. Your G700 7 iron is now 29.5 degrees and 37" long. It's basically a half inch short 1980's 5 iron. Seems we've come full circle. All that's changed is what's stamped on the bottom.

Think I'll order 6-gw or 7-gw. Saves a bit on the wallet hit. Frankly, I'm not sure I need a full 14 clubs in the bag. Probably score just the same with 12-13.

Where do you add a 14th club other than a 62-64 wedge to hit myself in the face?

As of now, this is what I play. Not typical, but I don't like hybrids and prefer woods. Yards are average-ish

I play my irons -1/2" in length and stiff

I play my driver at 43.5"

I am 5'6"

Driver - 10.5˚ - 260 yards

3w - 14.5˚ - 235 yards

5w - 17.5˚ - 215 yards

7w - 20.5˚ - 205 yards

5i - 26˚ - 190 yards

6i - 29˚ - 180 yards

7i - 32˚ - 170 yards

8i - 36˚ - 160 yards

9i - 40˚ - 150 yards

PW - 45˚ - 135 yards

50˚ - 125 yards

54˚ - 115 yards

58˚ - 105 yards

Putter

The main reason I carry a 7w is because my local club has 2 holes that play perfectly at around 200-210 yards off the tee and that is my money club for that distance.

26 - 6i (5i in G20s)

29.5 - 7i (6i in G20s)

34 - 8i (7.5i in G20s)

39 - 9i

44 - PW

49 - GW

I play G25's right now. I am going to try out the G700's and order them 1˚ weak. That should put you pretty close. I play a Vokey 50˚, 54˚, and 58˚ with Ping wedge at 45˚.

Mr. Wolfe

4. 23 degree 5i

5. 26 degree 6i

6. 29.5 degree 7i

7. 34 degree 8i

8. 39 degree 9i

9. 44 degree PW

10. 49 degree GW

11. 54 degree wedge

12. 58 degree wedge

13. Putter

Where do you add a 14th club other than a 62-64 wedge to hit myself in the face?

I'm totally over that part. I would say just stamp the degree on the bottom and be done with it, but then when someone bends them up or down the clubs are jacked.

Of course everyone knows a boob who buys these saying "I hit my 7-iron 15 yards longer now! Wow!" when the club is 4 degrees stronger than his old 7-iron, but the world is full of boobs to make a buck off of. That's not changing.

G700 is not a 790 competitor. They are completely different types of clubs. Only similarity is they both have a closed cavity in the back.

Nessism is completely correct here. The G700s are effectively replacing the G-Max as PINGs top of the line super game improvement(SGI) club. The may look a bit like the TM P790s in photos, but in hand they have no real similarities. They look good for a BIG club, but they ARE big.

The Power Spec lofts are something else. 42 degree PW?

Exactly. Ridiculous. My 2 iron is the same at the "4" iron in this set.

If it has to be explained then it's okay.

A 42 degree club is a 42 degree club and is going to go as far as you hit a 42 degree club. Why do people get so upset whether 8, 9, or P are engraved on the bottom? It's completely irrelevant to an informed buyer and completely irrelevant to a scorecard.

Exactly. It's insane people complain about this and sorry to say, a little douchey - especially if you are a low handicap.
