Focus on Golf de Chamonix in France.

This Trent Jones Sr design is nestled on a pretty flat piece of land in the Arve River Valley and is surrounded by the highest peaks of Alps Mountains. It offers a decent golfing challenge and some of the most beautiful scenery on any golf course. If I would consider a sister course on your side of the pond, it would be most likely Banff Spring in Alberta.

Got 9 holes in at Aetna Springs Golf Course outside of Napa on Sunday, they're last day of operations. Reportedly the oldest course west of the Mississippi redone by Doak and Urbina in 2007. This was a fun course, glad I got to play it before they closed.

It seems that quite a few WRX members are looking for a trip to Ireland this year.

Let me provide a little taste of the Emerald Isle

Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Club – Hole #18 - Ireland

The course will reopen next March after a major redesign plan.

Portmarnock Golf Club – Championship Course – Hole #7 - Ireland

Ben Crenshaw once described it as the shortest par-5 in the world, after carding two double bogeys on his way to winning the 1976 Irish Open

Tralee Golf Club – Hole #13 - Ireland

If you look (very) closely at the bottom of the picture, you may see my ball which landed on the edge of the green but bounced back and down. I managed to save a miraculous par !

Waterville Golf Links – Hole #10 - Ireland

i take pictures for courses professionally, message me if your course or club wants some done! ill post more in the future.

my home course windsong farm in minnesota. this is in the common area between the club house and locker rooms overlooking 16 and 17.

Gorgeous - nicely done. I live not too far from Windsong, but haven't actually seen it. Only know by reputation that it's both hard and beautiful.

Day 1 of my Palm Springs adventure was spent at Indian Canyon North. This is not the most scenic golf course, but it stands out in my mind as the place I would play the most if I were to transplant to the area. Reason one is that it is similar in style to the parkland courses in the midwest that I've grown up on. Reason two is that it is very retro in style -- I felt transported back to the 60's playing here. Most of the homes around the course were textbook mid-century modern beauties. Reason three is that this is the only course I played that would be easily walk-able, weather permitting.

The approach to the 9th green with the original clubhouse in the background.

The 18th green in the last light of the day.

The Walt Disney fountain and coots.

My favorite souvenir of the trip.

Day 2 in Palm Springs was spent at the La Quinta Mountain course. The last 4-5 holes there are pretty spectacular. We were serenaded on the 17th green by Elvis, coming from one of the houses and echoing off the mountain. Really cool moment.

Par 3 second hole - really hard shot. I yanked my 4 iron into the water.

The 14th takes you away from the houses and towards the mountains. Really cool second shot, especially if you have hooked your tee ball well left into the waste area. Best birdie of the trip for me. (This is not me, btw.)

The only thing better than playing the 15th is to turn around and look at it from the 16th tee.

The reward for hitting the fat part of the 16th green is a really fast downhill putt (pin was left).

Day 3 at Silver Rock Resort was not my favorite. In part because I thought the course was overrated, and for a first-timer, not particularly fair. We hit quite a few good shots that turned out to be not good at all. I'm sure my opinion is also tainted by the fact that I left 5 balls behind here. Not my day off the tee.

I think this is the second hole. Can't recall for sure.

The eighth green.

The 16th is a hard par 3 when the wind is up.

The 4th and final day of the trip was enjoyed at the stadium course at PGA West. What a treat. There were still a number of grandstands and TV stands around the course since the pros were there the previous week. Thank goodness they had started to knock down the overseeded part of the rough. It was seriously juicy.

I had to walk back to the tournament tee on this one. 255 yards of mayhem.

The 9th plays up from the men's combo tees. Looked like a real bear from the next tee back.

The iconic 16th hole. I hit my only squirrelly drive of the day here, but it ended up between the huge bunker left and the houses. In bounds and sitting up. I would have gone for the green, but I didn't want to hold everyone up by waiting for the green to clear. Kind of regret that now.

The crowd did not hang around to watch us play 18.

I walked off the green on 18 with the same ball that I started with on #1. That will probably be the most enduring memory of this day.

I really like Poppy, and for a track not on the ocean, I don't think I need anything more out of a course.

Looks good. What do you think of the course since the redo?

I started golfing in Norcal in Jan '12 and moved away in Oct '16, so I only played it once before they closed it for the reno and have played it say 8 (?) times since it reopened.

I really enjoy it, the more rounds in the more I like it which is a good thing obviously. The rack rate is silly, but the NCGA rate is spot on IMHO. I should have played it more while I liked in Norcal

For me anyways, it's an "every club in the bag" course, left/right, up/down, play contours or go at the pin for approaches, good walk not spoiled :)

The greens have come along really well since being so expectedly firm early on too. I've not played the privates, so it's 2nd of 4 out of the 17 Mile Drive courses I've played.

Referring to aetma springs, this makes me so sad. I played here a few times before the redesign while i was attending college nearby. Played twice after the redesign. What a great layout. I don't know what the overall plan was for this place, but they sunk way too much money into the clubhouse for how far from napa valley it was. Shame..
