New Chrome Soft and Chrome Soft X

I'm confused why people are so upset over $5? Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging your income, budget, etc. Hear me out.

A new dozen PV1/PV1x costs $47.99 @ Dicks right now online. If the CS/CSX go from $39.99 to $44.99, they are still cheaper. Not as cheap, but still cheaper. Not to mention if this new ball costs more to make in terms of this new material, better believe that price is getting passed to consumers.

My point is this - if you like a ball, and it truly performs for you, isn't paying another .42c per ball worth it? From a budget standpoint, that's one less coffee per month, or skipping one drive-thru meal. Your other option is to buy the 2017 versions at the discounted price. There will still be tons of them available for a while.

I just picked up some yesterday for $31.99 a dozen!

I have done the same thing. I'm sitting on two dozen yellow truvis and two dozen white truvis. I'll buy a dozen of the new ball when it comes out and play that right away with an old version and see what happens. If the new ball is that much better, I'll dump the old version for whatever I can get and start playing the new one. If I can't notice any difference, I'll keep trying to buy up the old model as cheaply as I can.

Having played both balls I’m confident you will switch, I would be happy to say the new ball is just that exceptional and the old ball was a great ball!

The new ball pretty much ticks every box, I would say the only reason why someone wouldn’t play it is because it doesn’t have a (insert players favourite brand here) logo on it that the player has been accustomed to (brainwashed) into playing or they are getting paid for playing a certain ball.

Every other benefit story about technology using graphene is usually about it's strength/weight and flex. I'm curious to hear how it plays a role in a better golf ball?

And 10-15 yards off the tee!? C'mon

graphene let Callaway tweak the core and mantle relationship, improving the balI off the driver. and the changes in those two allows the urethane cover to be adjusted, improving the ball off the irons.

FWIW hit the Rogue driver while using the Chrome Soft X against another premium urethane ball. 3-4 mph ball speed bump with the Chrome. and a VERY low spinning ball. IMO there possibly IS ten yards plus to be found off the tee with this ball.

The idea would be counter intuitive to where the market is going; but I'm imagining that graphene is in the core now. This would make the core lighter (increasing the moi of the ball and thus the spin slope) but firmer and more resilient meaning it rebounds more?

With TM having the patent for 5 piece golf balls, sounds like using graphene is how Callaway has gone about "de-coupling" portions of the golf ball to optimize it. TM added yardage to the TP5 golf balls so it's not out of the realm of possibility for Callaway to do the same.

Really looking forward to PGA show demo day on Tues. the 23rd. This ball is the number one thing I am interested in trying out. I really hope Callaway will have them out there to hit (last year for the Epic release they were just using standard range balls in their booth while Titleist as usual had all ProV's) and offer demo packs to take home.

The thinking may go like this: for just $5.00 more I can pick up the ProV's.

I will be surprised if Callaway sees a market share increase after this $5.00 hike.

If your goal is to be number 1 you will never get there if you place yourself as the "cheaper option to number 1". Cheaper has an underlying lower performance connotation.

If the new pricing takes off then the number 1 spot will be a true race in 2-3 years.

If it doesn't then they price next years model $7 cheaper.

I think this has the potential to be my favorite product of 2018, with two drivers being exactly the same as last year from TaylorMade and Callaway, this ball “may” be the only real improvement from any manufacturer this year. The chrome soft really feels great around the green, but I hate it off the tee. Hopefully this fixes it, but with the marketing machines of Callaway it’s kind of hard to believe them or any ome anymore.

Just try it and come to your own conclusion, I think anyone that does try it would have to be impressed it really is a fantastic ball.

The CS18 is really good as others are saying here. Feels better off of every club, especially Driver. And the numbers are really good, I may have picked up a mph or 2 ballspeed, or I could have been having a good day. The proV 17 was not faster though, some were as fast but not one ball speed was it faster than the CS 18 or CSx 18.

2018 is an exciting year for Callaway

This thing is hot. I feel like I have picked up about 6+ yards with this ball. Great feel around the green. Played both like the X a little better but that is what I played last year.

I’d say I picked up about the same 6-8m or so which is a handy gain!

I played the “standard” Chrome Soft last year but will play the X this year.

Even with the balls costing $5 a dozen more I expect to see this ball win even more market share from its competitors, it really is that good!

To the person asking about the patent: I think they actuallyDO own the patent. I know they own the patent on the machines that do the stamping. If I remember correctly from the plant tour, there are only like 3 of those machines in existence.

I’m excited to give it a shot, but I am seriously looking into Snell this year.

Going to come down to CSX, TP5 or new ProV for me this year.

I got two sleeves of each and tried both. Unfortunately, I did not hit it nearly as well as I had hoped, and it wont be knocking the TP5x out of the bag. I was surprised to be honest. The feel was great, and they seemed more durable than the last model, but, for whatever reason, I was knocking the TP5x at least 15 yards longer, without sacrificing anything around the greens. Like I said, I was surprised, and a little bummed. Maybe it was just me, on those holes, on that day.
