WORST songs of the 90's

The emergence of Nirvana/Pearl Jam (and grunge) was a Godsend for me. Was a freshman in college '91 and at the time, "pop" music was still full of hair band crap that I could not stand. Trixter, Winger, Slayer, Slaughter, Warrant etc.. take your pick I thought 99% of it sucked. Most of the music I listen to now is from the 90s :)

I think I'd have to second MMMbop though for the worst award!

If what is posted so far represents the worst of 90's pop, then that must have been a very good decade for pop music. There has been truly spectacularly awful pop music since the 2000's and truly spectacularly awful pop music in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Nothing posted so far reaches these levels.

This is coming from a guy who graduated H.S. in 1978.

For the record, the song that I think is the worst song of all time, of any decade (which I just looked up and found is actually a 90's song - 1992), is Whitney Houston - I will Always Love You. God how I despise that song.

Hopefully

will make you laugh, although since you're 58 you may not have the same appreciation for Adam Sandler that we 90s kids generally do.

Sorry Bro, but 80`s hair bands aren`t quite "pop" music. Slayer is far from a "hair band" and even further from a "pop" band.Michael Jackson was the King of Pop...does he sound anything like those 5 bands you mentioned?

I can think of a lot of songs right now that truly disgust me **coughMaroon5justinbiebertaylorswiftshawnmendes, so much so that the pop music station is permanently off in my truck. Can't avoid it though because you still hear it in stores, restaurants, sporting events, etc. It galls me that these people are getting rich per play of their songs through royalties.

Sorry to offend your Slayer, "bro". In my mind yes it was, doesn't matter if those bands sounded different from Michael Jackson. Radio (and MTV) was playing as much "Cherry Pie" (and the like) as they were "Bad" in those days.

This is strange because I have a friend who has the complete opposite opinion of yours. He grew up in Seattle where grunge was popular but he hated it. He loved hair bands with hot chicks and the party lifestyle and he wanted to be like them, so he was like what the heck why is depression and the world sucking and strange nonsensical streams of consciousness winning out over metal and hair bands? He complained about it quite a bit, but I didn't really care either way.

Because depression and the world sucking and streams of consciousness is more interesting and has more meaning than "pour some sugar on me / in the name of love". Pretty simple.

So basically in your opinion every bit of music from the eighties and early nineties was "pop" music except for the "grunge" bands?

If you weren't going to fight for your right to party, who would (although I guess that one is an 80s Beastie Boys reference).

Nothing like the late night diner run. And while everyone else was snacking on a pork roll egg and cheese or similar, we always had one character that would order a full on chicken parm meal like it was the middle of the afternoon. Who goes with linguine and a marinara sauce that time of day. Killed me every time.

And what is wrong with a full on chicken parm w/ linguini? After a night of partying that sounds righteous. *devil horns*

Was at a convention recently that featured a speaker who was a well known psychologist. He commented that people that are depressed tend to be more creative and vice versa. So, there you go....grunge has wayyyy more meaning to it. I mean, what’s creative about:

She’s only 17

She’s my cherry pie

Don’t want nothin but a good time

Now, don’t ask me to translate Yellow Ledbetter....I have no idea what the hell Eddie is singing, but I know he means it.

There was a bit more than depression running through veins of some of those guys.

Now thats funny.

We had a kid who, while everybody was getting a cheesburger with fries, would get the

Filet of soul stuffed with crabmeat! At the diner at 4am. Every time! Then, we would have to wait til they brought out his salad first. Then hed eat the salad and pass out without even eating his meal, rofl.

Ahhh, those were the days...

Guys, guys, guys the 80's was the best decade for music of all time.

The 90's sounds like a blend of the spin doctors, third eye blind and sugar ray. Thats all i hear when i think about it.

Oh my god, no. The 80's had some absolutely horrible stuff. Some good stuff too - but tons of awful, awful stuff.

Ya but not as bad as the 90's

hold on..ill go take a pic of my wifes tape collection from junior high ... has to be 50 fine examples in there!!

as a music lover of all genres and generations ...I have to say the 90s will always be my favorite... in my truck my sat presets are 6 7 8 9 10 and 34.....60s 70s 80s 90s 00s and alt/grunge channel.. 8 9 34 get used the most...

to the posters arguing over hair bands and pop of the 80s... I hadnt really thought about it as i do like some hair band at times...poison etc if the mood strikes... BUT now that it was mentioned i do too consider hair to be mostly pop... i mean most are chick songs..which equals pop right ? ( i know how 90s of me to be that politically incorrect)

Couple examples of hair/pop would be aerosmith ( maybe not truly hair?) but surely poppy....( im a big aerosmith fan ....or more so Joe Perry fan so i can say that )... poison of course is super pop....Bon jovi...etc....

and my vote for worst 90s song is aqua- Barbie Girl...utterly pointless...
