Practice Shoes?

Maybe I'm a bit out there (even by WRX standards) but does anyone practice in different shoes than they play in? I've got a few pairs of shoes that I wear if I'm just going to the range that are just beat up and not the best looking. Now I'm looking at some photos from The Farmers and I've seen a few guys practice putting in street shoes. I've found myself wearing spikeless shoes on the range or putting for a practice day. Mostly because I have a pair in my car but also because if I'm at the range, I'm trying to work on tempo and not really focused on hitting superstar shots.

 

Anyone else in this boat? If so, what shoes do you all wear when you practice compared to when you play?

I do this. I don't know why. The golf shoes I practice in are as nice as my regular shoes. Just older.

I have a pair for practice and the odd emergency nine. Actually two pair. One for each car I drive. One is spikeless. Also, I'm a shoe ho!

I have 2-3 for practice. I leave one in the car in case I end up at the range somehow without my practice shoes.

 

Mainly have it so I dont have to switch from sneaker to shoe when I get there. Need to utilize all the practice time I can get. No time for dilly dally. :) Nike and adidas have some nice practice shoe option coming up (Nike roshe and nike racer, Adidas has some super knit / boost style practice coming out from what I saw on the PGA Show pictures. I've got last years Crossknits and they are great for the practice).

If I'm hitting off mats I just wear whatever, usually trainers. If I am going to the range and it's grass then I usually throw on my old pair of Ecco Streets. When I play I have 3 pair of Ecco Biom's I wear. Grey/Black or white.

I have two pairs of Gen 1 Adidas 360s in 10.5 in pretty good shape that are too tight that I'll send to someone that wants them for practice shoes. 20 bucks to cover the shipping would help :)

I wear a different pair of shoes if I'm practicing on the range. Usually ones that are a little older and won't see rotation on the course.

 

Practice putting in street shoes is done to save wear and tear on the greens. Whenever you setup a station and hit putts from the same spot, it's not good if you're wearing cleats. Some guys put a towel down under their cleats, but many simply prefer to wear athletic shoes.

if im just going somewhere to hit off of mats i will just wear whatever gym shoes i want.

 

if I am walking i usually wear my fi flex or flyknit chukkas.

 

if im riding i wear something with spikes

I have quite a few pair of golf shoes, and I tend to use old tournament shoes when I practice. I also frequently purchase shoes just for practice.

This. I take very good care of my shoes and so they tend to last a long time. However when they reach a point I don't want to wear them for rounds on the course they become practice shoes and/or foul weather shoes when I'll wear them on the course if its really wet and muddy out.

I do this as well. My playing shoes are spiked, my practice ones aren't. Plus if I need to run errands afterwards I can just wear them. I have the Adidas spikless kind for practice.

I don't have practice shoes as such but I do have shoes and gloves which have been relegated from the starting line up to winter and driving range sessions.

I always practice in my playing shoes. I think it is critical to have the same feel on you feet for practice that you have on the course.

 

Consistency. Your interaction with the ground is more important than most people realize.

 

In addition to that, I’m hyper sensitive to differences in shoes. The last set I bought I tried on 4 pairs of the same shoes in the same size and color in the store and ended up taking the right shoe from the second box and the left shoe from the fourth box because every one felt just a little different.

 

I gave up buying shoes on line because half the time I would find fault with one or the other and either send them back or be stuck tolerating the irritating one.

I bought a pair of BOA spikes for practice. Nice to quickly throw them on for a lunch break range sesh.
