TaylorMade Milled Grind Wedges

TT2017

Recommended Posts

TM may be about to get in some really big trouble.

The Hi-Toe is clearly ripping off the PM grind.

The P790 is virtually identical to PXGs.

The new M4 hammerhead may as well say jailbreak on the bottom.

Their new stand back that sits flat is a complete rip off the Wilson Staff Nexus Exocage design.

I mean... their stuff is great right now, because they are just copying the best of the industry from other manufacturers.

Sorry to get off topic, but really TM?

Well the PM Grind ripped off the Ping Eye 2 wedge, so this seems like a non-issue. Phil was using an Eye 2 wedge (even got blamed for cheating because the grooves didn't conform) so Callaway made him the "PM Grind"

This chain of events is not exclusive to the golf industry. It applies to pretty much every competitive industry. If you can take what your competitor is doing, make it better, and sell it successfully - then go for it. As a consumer you should be applauding this behavior.

Not really. They only similarity is high toe. Pm grind is complete package design other than that. Round leading edge. U grind. Short hosel , weight Ports , full face grooves. Nobody ever combined all that. Pieces yes. But not all that. Eye 2 wishes it were pm grind.

To that point I'd love to see the mulled grind faces to see if they have grooves high on the toe. If they don't theyre not going t preform as welll. The pm grind beauty is it takes the hit toe miss common on flops and adds mass behind the ball olus grooves t control it with. Essentially making that shot a non Miss.

I have a 52/56/60 in bronze on order, but enjoyed playing the Callaway PM so a 'Hi Toe' might be in my future if TM release it.

Anyone have a comparison between TM Milled Grind and Callaway new MD Forged?

I use the Cally MD Forged and they spin great and feel great. Wondering if TM MG have lots of spin and do they feel too hard or clicky?

Rors was using something like this when he was still a Nike staffer.

Eh, sort of but not really. The Nike Toe Sweep wedge has an exaggerated sole grind where the toe is much wider than the heel, but the face itself isn't any higher...and Rory didn't use it.

Lots of spin-yes. But what new wedges don’t spin a lot? Not sure how the spin rates compare, but I would think they are very similar. To me, the MGs feel a little clicky. I came from forged wedges and the feel is just not as good, but still better than SM6s to me. I only get the hard feeling on 50-70 yards. Chip shots and full shots feel fine. I tried the MD Forged, they’re good wedges, but I couldn’t get over the look of the face. The toe height looked off compared to the heel.

Anybody know if TM is going to offer the MGs in raw? Or offer the 50* in the Black or Antique Bronze? Want to upgrade my wedges to MGs in 50/54 and a 58 Hi-Toe, bummed I can't get the 50/54 to match or at least in a raw version.

On the past couple of WRX/TM trips, when members asked about the possibility of raw wedges coming to retail, I believe the answer was no.

Raw is still Tour only due to weight is what I was told.

50* is only in chrome finish.

I was at the golf galaxy by my house 2 days ago and the TM rep was there with all the new gear... Ran straight through the M-whatevers and grabbed the Hi-Toe to see it in person. The shape of the wedge is not nearly as "offensive" of the Callaway PM grind. It sort of looks like a subtle extended toe, but mainly overall normal wedge shape...and then with grooves all the way across the face. The toe is not nearly as exaggerated as the Callaway. I like the looks of this wedge much more.

I got to hit it for about 15 min. (store was pretty empty, and he was talking about the woods and irons. I currently have a 58 EF wedge with the ATV grind. I am replacing my wedges with the MG line, including the Hi-Toe. It felt much softer than my current wedge and the grind looks like an updated ATV. I like how the leading edge looks and how it sits square. It looks like you are cheating when you open it up. Can't wait to hit this thing out of a bunker.

Available for retail on March 1.... but if you know a TM staffer, might be able to get it a little bit earlier.

anyone pair these wedges with the 790 irons??

Possibly going 790 A Wedge to 54 60 SB combo

I played the MG wedges all last season and yes I just picked up P790's. I have the 790 AW but I also have a 50 MG from last season. I have a love/hate relationship with AW's that resemble the entire iron set. I preferred the MG's to the SM6 and the Callaway wedges.

Are these any good for a high handicapper? I have a chance to snag these for cheap, or for a few bucks more, some RTX 3 cavity backs. I will probably get them in 54/58 or 55/60 (not sure yet). Standard bounce for the heel grind.
I think they would be. The face on them is fairly large, at least compared to my last wedges. They feel decent, but you can tell they’re not forged.

Normally it has nothing to do with distance but quality of strike. Doesn’t matter what iron set it is. I think it’s a mental thing. lol

Spin is excellent. I have loved the whole Mack Daddy line. These easily compete with that line. These are heavier and feel better during the swing.

Rory did use the toe sweep when it came out. A couple of articles online about him using it.
