Morning Drive...What Happened?

I love golf but I cannot watch this show; Charlie and Damon are honestly so horrible I can't imagine the decision-maker at NBC watches that show and doesn't want to get rid of them. It's unwatchable.

It's been the same crappy show ever since Comcast / NBC tried to turn it into the Today show. Can't believe I'm saying this but it was better when Erik Kuselias was banging Holly on the side and it was just him and Gary.

 

I will say though, the video of watching Damon Hack try to chip playing "Golf Pong" at the PGA Show was the funniest thing I've seen in years. I am dumbfounded how someone can play as much golf as he does and suck so badly.

The fact they still have Hack and Ginellq on the show is all I need to know, to say that show still sucks. How NBC doesn’t have better options than those 2 is pathetic.

 

Just bring back Holly (don’t really see her doing anything at FOX) and let her and Lauren Thompson host the show.

I still like it. Fits a void for me. Now Espn SC has become the "whats happen to it" for me. Like Scott Van Pelt show though.

I agree....I liked it best back when it first started....Heck I liked it back when it was the Grey Goose 19th Hole with that big guy from The Big Break. At least then it was actual discussion regarding golf and not cheesy segments to fill airtime. I've said it before but i'll say it again....Have an instruction segment with quality tips that don't revolve around copying the winning players bowed wrist or how they add hinge in the downsing......Have a segment on course strategy or hole design, have an equipment segment with real reviews both pros AND CONs not just a 3 minute marketing ad by Matt Adams. I actually like the health segments so I would be ok keeping that and then talk about what's going on inside the ropes...that's what people want to know..not a bunch of fluff or cheesy skits with Damon Hack who if i hear him say butter cut one more time i'm going to hulk smash my tv.

Lauren Thompson is annoying ....she always interrupts people in mid-sentence....on the annoying-meter she's only a click below Twit Isenhour from Golf Central, another underachieving show (can't end a sentence; he's golf's version of a filibuster)

 

the only redeeming qualities/value of The Morning Drive are some of the reporters: Rosaforte & Matt Adams are excellent IMHO, and there are a few other reporters who actually bring interesting value ....and I actually like Gary Williams

The show just isn't very good anymore. They've brought in way too many former, wanna be, pros who can barely put a sentence together. And their demos of shots and putts is horrible, most can't hit the shot they describe (especially Paige). And Cara's accent is jut too thick at times for an American audience. They have a good set that could be used much better but they need better regulars with a clear host that can guide the show better. Let's face it all the sports have similar morning shows (re: football, baseball, etc.) and none of them are really all that good. I am actually beginning to believe it was better with just Gary W and Erik K, which is saying a lot. Maybe the biggest issue is that they are treating everything way too seriously - they're talking about a game/ sport not international policies. Hope they can fix it soon.

I love golf, but I still can't fathom why there is a morning show dedicated to golf that airs most of the year. It has to be VERY difficult to come up with interesting things to discuss except during major season.....or when Tiger gets arrested.

Charlie Reymer stuffed Gary Williams in a locker on sunday morning talking about the green on the 17th. Literally shoved him off the camera to illustrate a point about chipping. It was hilarious. Gary had no idea how to play off how pissed he was.

I found it entertaining when the doctor they have on the show (forgot his name) went thru how they got Frank N. to stop being such a cow.

Paige McKenzie needs to go away. She struggles putting a coherent thought together, doesn't have good insight or thoughts and is really just terrible.

 

Ginella is ok, can occasionally talk down to the viewer but he should realize how incredibly lucky and fortunate he is given his job. Hack is god awful, probably the worst on there.

 

I like Rymer and Williams, they make it worth tuning in. Damron has gotten better and isn't too bad. Immelmann has not gotten better. Wish he'd resume playing full time so he's not on tv anymore.

 

Cara Robinson occasionally lets her accent get a little too thick and is hard to understand.

 

Mrs Chamblee makes Paige look like a professional broadcaster. If something isn't written down for her on cue cards, like it wasn't when they were at the PGA show last week, she is not good at all.

 

All in all though, it's not horrible, just wish they'd revise the on air talent.

It was better when they were trying to be like Mike and Mike. Since they switched formats to be like the Today show, it has suffered. Hack is awful. Cara is annoying. Lauren just comes off fake, and Paige still can't complete a thought without choking on her tongue. And I think we all know how Bailey got her job. Never understood why this show needs to be 2 hours. 1 hour seems plenty.

its really their own fault....they concentrated so much all these years to TW and his world, and now that he is no longer a week to week factor, they are lost for content

 

The TOUR may not have the same personalities that we have watched thru their whole careers, but the TOUR needs to show more golfers that are actually on the leaderboard, and allow people to recognize who they are..then it would give a morning golf show someone to talk about

 

One other thing the GC should consider is taking up subjects that appear on social media and chat forums such as WRX

Golf Channel pound for pound really has worked hard at putting a lot of "babes" on air. Unfortunately for me most of them don't possess both professional "chops" and "hotness" on par with the likes of ESPN, or Fox Sports. Kay Cockerill would be the notable exception! She has it all.

YEP...RDD seriously? Not to get too "inside baseball", but it seems to me like perhaps the problem is they have producer(s) who are just plain incompetent. During the end of that fiasco this morning trying to speed golf the par 5, cringe worthy to be sure. All it needed was a Ron Burgundy voice over.

 

The look on Lauren Thompson's face as the show faded to black said it all (she was pissed as the little British guy upstaged her and closed out the show).

 

The station has come a loooong way from the insightful and knowledgeable gravitas of Peter Kessler to what we just witnessed.

 

Wonder what format the PGA Channel will use?
