Machine putter help

I keep looking at this putter on eBay and I’m starting to “fall in love” but I don’t know much about. Can anyone help me with model or some added info?

Looks like an M2 Adjuster, steel head with a brass or copper flange.

I think its an M2A with a copper plated flange. VMG mid mill with standard PN. Main body is probably SS. Previous owner also paid to NOT have any machine logo etc on the sole. The flange is also not an ideal match for this head given the "step-down" in the cavity? No biggy though.

Thats very cheap for a Machine. You wont get a nicer example for any less than the $175 asking price. It caught my eye too the other day. I won't buy it, don't worry ... but somebody else will.

Not sure about this. Seems there are a couple sellers on eBay with a bunch of Machine stock they keep rolling out.

 

A couple weeks ago I picked up a brand new M2 with a wide flange for 175, and it came with a headcover. While this is a nice putter it is used and no headcover. This is also a relist as the putter went unsold last time around. Don't get me wrong, I love Machine putters, but there is no where to turn if something goes wrong. I think 140-160 seems about right, unfortunately.

I’m not sure what could go wrong with a putter but I understand where you’re coming from. I’m just looking for something different than the normal. I have two Scotty’s already and I like the Newport 2 style. Any suggestions if this isn’t the way to go?

I saw that too and I actually like the logo engraving on the bottom (especiallly the dog). Many of the ones listed on the bay and the last few on the bst are logo free.

Anybody know who the two guys are who keep selling these on eBay - there seems to be a non-ending supply of these coming from somewhere?

I've heard that its someone either working for Dave or a buddy of his that is helping sell off a bunch of old stock. Just a rumor, don't know if there's truth to it or not. I contacted one of the sellers and that's the vibe he gave me...stating things like he's in Dave's shop 3-4 times a week & can place special orders for putters and accessories.

This is accurate. I contacted a seller from eBay (you all know the one) and let him facilitate a custom order last summer. He claimed to be an independent "dealer" that had "access" to Dave, but after a little digging found out that was a gross exaggeration bordering on outright lie. He's really a failed putter designer that works at Dave's shop and sells his old stock. It was a nightmare. I didn't even want anything too special. Just a matte black M20 with matte black shaft and medallion. I was quoted 2 weeks total turnaround... The putter itself took 5 weeks but came with the wrong shaft, which was bent from being poorly packed. The weights and hardware were wrong, and the medallion was "on hold" till they got it back from whoever. I was eventually sent the correct shaft (which I then had to get installed), and was given the runaround on the medallion for nearly 2 additional months. When I did finally get the medallion it didn't really match the putter, and I never received the correct hardware and weights. I still love the putter (minus the medallion), and my complaints are nit-picky to be sure, but the fact remains that the promises made before I sent payment remain unfulfilled.

 

What's clear to me is that Dave is a fantastic artist with ZERO business sense. He has these bozos working for him that also have ZERO business sense. I think what we're witnessing is the final gasps of another failed golf brand. I keep seeing little touches that I thought were Machine exclusives show up in other brands, and there's no effort being made to dispute anything on here like like there used to be. Hell, I'm sure that the "custom" putter I ordered last summer was just an old M20 head they had laying around that they could re-finish on the cheap. I seriously doubt that Dave has milled a single new Machine putter in the last year. If it comes out that Dave is working for Artisan or Bloodline, I wouldn't be surprised one bit.

 

It's a real bummer, cause I haven't found any other putters that even come close to Machine in looks or customization options.

I'm not out to ruin anybody's eBay business, but I think my story is one that should be shared. Had the seller been upfront with me about the potential timeline or even just made an effort to communicate with me better, I'd have been happy. The reality is that he over-promised and under-delivered, when it should be the other way around. In the strictest sense, I did eventually get everything I paid for (sort of). It took WAY longer than promised, some things were not really as expected, communication was terrible, and it ended up costing me more to get the proper shaft installed... but I did technically GET the putter I ordered. That doesn't mean I'm happy about the experience.

 

Here's the bottom line; If you purchase a Machine putter via eBay, I have no doubt that you will get exactly what you see in the auction, and you'll receive it in a timely manner. If, on the other hand, you are in the market for something custom... Maybe take a moment to consider the many, MANY tales on this forum alone before taking the risk. Just sayin-
