Which Rain gear, FJoy or UA

Custom order with their Logos.

 

Want to get a good set, as I don't play in the rain often so they'll last quite awhile.

 

Looking at FootJoy DryJoys Tour LTS, but open to suggestions.

I've got an Eddie Bauer waterproof shell that I like a lot ($50), and some Columbia rainproof pants I got off of amazon for like $40. I highly recommend the rain gloves from FootJoy for grip in the rain, though. They're amazing, imo.

PX5 is damn good value for the money. Great performing product.

I've had two sets of FJ rain gear in 20 years. I get the high end rain pants and then get some 3/4 jackets and some full jackets. In my opinion:

1) FJ does the job. Never had an issue with being protected from weather. No quality issues. Upgraded due to growth in waistline.

2) I'm about 250 and FJ is super comfortable. The pants are jackets fit 'big men'. No mobility issues swinging the club.

3) UA and others like Zero Restriction feel too layered and restrictive - maybe more suited for ski snowing and not rain gear. You know bad rain gear when you put on a layer underneath and all of a sudden you can't swing.

Hands down the best of the best is KJUS. I've owned everything including FJ, Zero and Proquip. KJUS is the lightest weight, best feeling and most waterproof of them all. It's also the most expensive but you get what you pay for! I'd highly recommend them but if out of your price range the PX5 is damn good value for the money.

 

I've recently taken the plunge with Kjus on a couple of rainwear tops, and...I'm going to have to say...I'm blown away by the performance. I went with the Dexter tops, which are their thinnest fully waterproof top (I believe), and man...when they say lightest in golf, it's not even close! These things are like wearing air, yet you're still fully waterproof. And it "breathes" very well. I've had the long sleeve top on already here in GA on some 70 degree days and no perspiration buildup underneath. And it packs down like nothing I've ever seen. You could quite literally carry a waterproof top in your pants pocket.

 

I'll be buying much more Kjus now that I've tried it, and selling off some of my Galvin Green pieces. I still like Galvin Green for some of the styling, especially as they move more to "lifestyle" type styling and less "golf course specific" looks. But for on course, I think I'll be predominantly Kjus now.

Wow - that is compact. I'm guessing about the size of a cell phone. Does the jacket have a liner? I know my Goretex jackets that are unlined tend to feel odd in the summer, whereas my lined ones don't.

The "Dexter" does not have a liner, but it's exposed membrane on the interior is nowhere as sticky and "rubbery" as unlined (Paclite) GoreTex.

 

It's insanely thin and light, which is what I want in my 4 season rain gear. That way I can wear it in the summer and not burn up, or wear it over other thermal layers in the fall/winter. Of course I have other lined Galvin Green GoreTex pieces for other types of conditions, but my next experiment will be one of their lined models to see how it compares with other models. But for now, and most everyone has said that has tried Kjus, I'm putting them as the premier rain gear for golf.

How does this compare to something like the ping zero gravity line?

 

Interesting that you should ask about the Zero Gravity line...that's another of my favorites. The Kjus Dexter is thinner and lighter than even the Zero Gravity, and the PING is very light. I do think the PING stretches more than the Kjus, but the Kjus feels less rubbery.
