Insuring your Golf Clubs?

What if? What if?....

Say it isn't so!

If the unthinkable happened and your clubs walked off or your car was vandalized. What is the process like to get replacements?

I use an assortment of 3-5 year old clubs I found on eBay. but still it would be a really big hassle to prove what they were worth and find the money to replace them.

Not to mention members on the forum who buy brand new clubs.

What can we all do before hand to guarantee we are covered ?

Take pictures? Video? Print out invoices and receipts? I'd love to know.

Take pictures of your stuff. If you have anything that is custom or tour issue, make sure to have receipts for those items, COA's for high end putters if you can get them. If you have anything that is custom fit, get a receipt for clubs and the fitting. Make sure your policy provides coverage for Replacement Cost Value (RCV) on your contents/personal property. If you do not have RCV coverage, your insurer only owes you the depreciated value of your clubs/bag/shoes/etc. You can expect the insurer to depreciate at 10%/year for most golf equipment, this adds up pretty quick. If your clubs are 5 years old and you don't have RCV coverage, you'll get half the value of what it would cost to replace with like, kind and quality new items. RCV coverage is a must!

I had to make a claim once after my clubs were stolen. I think I had Allstate at the time, and there were no issues - they took my word on the clubs and the value, even included the cash I had in the bag. May depend on your insurer. Think it was covered under my homeowners, but not sure.

It's called a "rider", and most other than the cheapest of agencies/policies offer them. You pay a minimal extra premium, but in the event of a loss they cover stated amount and it doesn't go against your homeowner's deductible or increase your premiums. It's a good thing to have if you normally carry around high end merchandise in your auto or store in your home.

If memory serves correctly, last time I had one it added about $200/year to my annual premium. but as long as I had a police report pretty much anything stolen from my car/garage was covered under that separate policy, and if you could prove what you owned was worth at the time they paid full replacement value, pretty much no questions asked and no impact on your homeowner's policy.

**edit** You do have to keep up to date records/photos in case you upgrade your clubs. They aren't paying $2k for a set of Eye 2s you had stolen and demand a set of PXGs to replace - they aren't stupid.

You can schedule property seperate on your homeowners policy, but it wouldn't really be worth a claim. The insurance companies hammer you when you make theft claims. Mast scheduled property is in expensive. For example a $15k diamond ring can be insured for about $300-400 a year. I own a firm in Houston. Message me and I can help you out. I know agents in just about every state. Many of these policies offer mysterious disappearance too. Hope this helps. You guys help me a lot on here and I'd like to help y'all back as much as possible

I have a scheduled policy endorsement on my clubs for $49 a year and the great thing about scheduling is no deductible. They will accept PayPal receipts so it was great when my set was stolen 8 years ago. I highly recommend it. The one bad part is it does hit your loss report as a homeowners claim which can jack your rates

I specifically talked to USAA about this and I would have to pay an additional fee for homeowners but my clubs are covered in my car. Therefore, I leave then in my car, mostly bc need to practice but also they should be covered. That was with USAA.

That refreshes my memory. My clubs were stolen from my car, so it was my car insurance that covered. Don't recall any rate hikes after claim, there was a deductible which way back when was a few hundred dollars.

Should be the home or renters insurance that covers personal property
