Tiger trackman data Honda Classic

Are we really not going to talk about how fast Tiger was swinging it this week or how incredible that is for someone his age on tour with his injury history? It even woke Brandel up, he looked like ghost talking about it. My mind is blown that he can still move it that fast, he's now tied for 4th on tour in clubbed speed and thats ahead of Rory, DJ, and JB and Bubba.

Where's the proof for 128?

Tiger has stuck to his guns about "getting stronger" and "getting my speed back." No choice but to respect it.

He's a great student of the game and knows it's been a hitters game for a while now.

I am really impressed with how fast he is swinging it. His proximity was pretty insane this week.

Hope he stays healthy.

Awesome to see him hammering the ball like this BUT I'm a little skeptical of that 128mph. He's had his clubhead and ballspeed measured on 9 drives this year. If you look at his max ball speed, it really doesn't line up with anything near 128, much more like 120-122mph (still insane). Looking over the max clubhead speed numbers over the last few years, you will note some numbers far beyond the standard deviation for certain players. I think trackman, as awesome as it is, delivers bad data from time to time.

Hoping he can back it up with a few more 128mph swings to prove me wrong.

Yeah and this (see max measured speed): https://www.pgatour.com/stats/stat.02401.html

Golf Channel is a little misleading (purposefully I'm sure), his clubhead speed would be the highest since 2007 if he averaged 128mph for the season. A good handful of guys have been clocked at 128mph or more before.

I think there’s some truth to that but he was the fastest on 3 of the 4 days, today Rory was 122 club speed and 180 ball speed on 3 which is pretty standard numbers for him and Tiger was 127, if the radar was putting out inflated numbers it would be doing it for everyone. Also, the 3rd hole was in to the wind all week and Tiger was playing a low cut, his angle of attack was -4 and -5, that’s going to reduce your ball speed and your carry.

Didn't know he put up 127 on 3 today. That definitely supports it being real.

It even woke Brandel up, he looked like ghost talking about it. I only have the numbers for round 1 and 2 but on the weekend he was up to 128 and 127, he was playing low cuts into the wind so it hurt the overall distance and ball speed, but my mind is blown that he can still move it that fast, he's now tied for 4th on tour in clubbed speed and thats ahead of Rory, DJ, and JB and Bubba.

Do you have to have special credentials to access that data you posted in your screenshot? Looks like data I would drool over all day.

They discussed it on Golf Central after the tournament tonight, Brandel was going over the numbers and mentioned how a lot of people were questioning them so he looked at all of them. I heard Rory’s for today on pgatour live during his round. I was skeptical too since he was “only” 119 last week in LA, but there was an interview from back in January when he was testing clubs that said he was hitting 126/126 consistently that day. He’s always hit down on the driver especially when he plays a cut and so he doesn’t get the most out of it and the swing speed would probably go down a tad if he hit up on it but still I’m amazed he’s got that kind of speed still in the tank and it’s very encouraging for him going forward, it’s hard to dominate and be consistently competitive if you aren’t long.

I got that screenshot off Twitter, I tried to go to that shot link site and you do need a login and password, I agree I wish they’d post links to that stuff on the Pga tour site.

No comments from all the "experts" on here that said he was going to have to learn to play Pavin type golf? Dink it off the tee and get it done in other ways?? HMMM :)

Yeah, I think that ship has sailed...

Two things:

1) How do they actually account for the fact that he was hitting 3W or 5W a lot of the time? and,

2) It's crazy that in his interview with Dottie Pepper after the round, he mentioned his priority before Augusta was "getting back to the gym and building strength." Maybe that's intended to prevent back injury, but he looked hella strong out there. Dare I say, linebacker-ish? Kidding, of course...

His smash factor ranked 110th or so. Not a recipe for great contact. He should swing 116-118 like Rahm and Justin Thomas and then he'd actually hit fairways

The Trackman data the tour measures is flawed due to how they measure it. The unit isn’t directly behind the player like how it’s traditionally used as they have to be able to cover all shots from anywhere on the tee. So you get soon very poor launch angle and spin readings and some bad clubhead speed readings as a result

Watching him with driver was pretty impressive this week, but it was also somewhat nerve-wracking. To be honest, I’d rather see him use 3 wood on every hole as it seems to give him more shots at birdie. Now if he can get more consistent with his driver and avoid trouble- stand by.

You could be right, but I'd say tempo is more important than just slowing it down an arbitrary amount. Obviously no one should be swinging out their shoes on every drive, but some of my worst drives happen when I focus too much on slowing down.

I do think Tiger's driving has been slowly improving week by week since playing at Torrey. I thought this week was better than Riviera.

By April can Tiger:

  1. Figure out how to hit it in the middle of the face and,
  2. Hit some more fairways with that speed

Could make a very interesting Masters.

To get to 116mph, JT swings out of his shoes, literally. I am a big fan of JT but as a guy with slight body he will be susceptible for the same kinda injuries that are starting to pile up on Day & Rory.

I am convinced that longevity of the current generation of players is going to much shorter than previous generations but I think that is fine considering how much money they make.
