Anyone else have any comments about serial numbers on the P750?

My 750s are straight from taylormade and the hosel simply has "tour proto" stamped on it

Thanks, that's the same as mine.

Anyone else have any comments about serial numbers on the P750?

the serial numbers on the p770 and p750 are on the hosel, very faintly etched, but there...

this is the p750 7 iron...

Strange that some appear to have a serial number and some don't.

Does anyone else have any clarification on this that they can add?

On the taylormade site they say the serial number can be on the 5 or 7 iron only also.

Not sure why they did that.

The site also said if there isn't a serial number it could be fake.

I have a set of p770 and p750 and both have all the serial numbers on the hosel.

Have to look really hard to see. Get a magnifying glass if anything.

I 'had' two sets of 770 heads, both with laser etched very faint serial numbers, one retail and one Tour Issue, the latter with a T at the end of the serial number. Absolutely no differences between the two sets visually or indeed with weights.

I can't compare retail to Tour Issue with regards to the 750's though, but my 750's have the same very faint serial number etching as the 770's.

In all cases every iron had a serial number etching and each serial number was unique.

You mean every set rather than every iron I think.

It's interesting that there are people who have got sets from TM, so no concerns about authenticity, but they don't have serial numbers, and others who do have serial numbers. I wonder if there's a difference with made to order irons in the P750.

Your photograph inspired me to have another look at mine using my iPhone camera zoomed in. I still couldn't see a serial number, but I happened to turn the club at a slight angle and catch the light differently and suddenly saw it. Now I know it's actually there I had a look just without the iPhone camera... can't even see the faintest sign of it. Amazing. So, mine do have a serial number but it's only possible to see it when magnified and if the light catches it just right. :swoon:

They no longer track serial numbers at all!

And any set sold, retail or custom will have different serial numbers on each club

M3 9.5* / Atmos Black Tour Spec
M4 16.5* / Hzrdus Black
M4 Hybrid 19* / KBS Prototype
P-770 / Project X LZ 6.0
52* / 58* Black Milled Grind Wedge / KBS Custom
59* Original Trusty Rusty / Hump shaft
60* Raw Milled Grind Wedge / KBS Custom

In all cases every iron had a serial number etching and each serial number was unique.

You mean every set rather than every iron I think.

I mean that in each of the 24 individual clubs that I've had all had a unique serial number. 3-PW in two sets of 770 and 3-PW in 750.

I now use Mizuno 900 Tours and each club in my set, 3-PW, has the same serial number, thus a 'set'. Mizuno use blank heads, then build a set, then laser etch the serial numbers to match for the set.

TM have pre-etched heads and put together a set by selecting each head from a 'bins', but TM don't laser etch afterwards to marry each individual club to the set by way of common serial number. Thus, every TM iron head you'll ever see will have a unique serial number not shared by any other club.

p.s.

TM's serial number 'uniqueness' per iron head is not new and has been the same practice for all the sets of irons that I've had in recent memory.

I went back and took a much closer look, there is a very fine etching on both my 5 and 7i. Mine both match so maybe I got lucky and actually got a built to order set? Mine did come through someone who works at TM so maybe that made a difference?

Just played my second round with my new 770's. I've been a little concerned that they might be harder to hit than my Mizuno MX200's. Even though the heads are smaller, I don't notice any appreciable difference in forgiveness. They feel wonderful, and have a nice ball flight. As a bonus, they rewarded me with a 120y PW for an eagle! I'm pumped!

The 770 are high on my list for a new set!

Keep the comments coming!

Currently play the 714 ap2. I feel like the 770 short irons are more compact, have less offset and are softer.

Shaft I fit into is the kbs tour 130x.

Will have to demo them again before I pull the trigger

For those gaming the P770's or who has tested these please compare them to the AP2's? How do they compare in terms of feel and forgiveness?

I'm starting to entertain the idea of these versus my current AP2's.

I have hit them against my 714 ap2.

770 have less offset and feel softer then my ap2. They also look more rounded then the ap2.

Forgiveness wise I think they are the same.

770 also have a more boxy top line

Agree with the above ^^^^, forgiveness is about the same. The 770 top line is square, ap2 more round. I think the ap2 feels a little more clicky but I think that is person preference.

I agree with both of these. Prefer the P770 to the AP2 (full disclosures: I haven’t hit the 718 AP2. Only the prior generations.)

My p750s all have serial as well ,, but my 5 iron looks like it has back to back TT ,, reallly love these irons so far .. and it kicked the mp18s rite out .. mine feel really soft ,, no complaints.. I am such a nut job when it comes to the serial numbers ,, like I always think ohh ya T serial has to be tour issue ,,, I know it’s not ,,, but I love my p750s ,, and grabbed another set after trading in some xtra clubs I had laying around ...
