I'e noticed this before and have not commented, he's one of very few guys ive seen play different shafts from his irons to wedges, why is that? i feel the inconsistency moving from one to the other in the wedges would be detrimental.

It’s not unheard of. Fowler plays C-Tapers in his irons and Dynamic Gold in his wedges. Adam Scott also plays PX LZ in his irons and Dynamic Gold in his wedges.

So is DJ really using a Rombax under that paint or is it a version of the 661?

Per Taylormade update yes. Wanted less spin so can work the ball more.

He had 3 headcovers in the bag today... I wonder what was under that 3rd one, because it’s not a driving iron.

I was standing right behind him for his entire range session today and it looked like a hybrid that he hit 2-3 balls with... but then he hit a few 3-woods, and that club head looked pretty small, too, so maybe it’s just where I was standing that made it look smaller. Either way, I think he had a 5-wood or hybrid in the bag today instead of the driving iron. Not sure if it made it to the 1st tee, but it was there on the range.

I believe he’s played a 5 wood, but I don’t think he’s ever gamed a hybrid. Like the high ss players, Tiger, JDay, Rory, they can struggle with the ball going left with a hybrid. They prefer to play a 5w that flies high and lands softly

Rombax under some 661 paint, same shaft as he has used for years!

I’m guessing the lighter shafts in the wedges are used so he can swing them faster and generate more spin.

Wedge shafts might have the wrong sticker. If it's an X shaft instead of an S, all of his shafts would be 130g.

  • 4 months later...

Was watching the Canadian Open earlier, and it looked like DJ had a Matrix TPHDe shaft in his driver? I wasn't entirely sure, but the colour scheme looked the same. If it's true I'd be surprised, from what I've read it's supposedly very different than the HZRDUS and Speeder he has played.

Can anyone else confirm/deny?

They were saying he switched back to his old driver during the RBC Can open coverage on Thursday.

His witb listed by JW said he had the 10.5 M4 head in play.

Listed as the 9.5 here... anyone know which one? i'm assuming he uses a 10.5 opened up but curious if anyone knows his real specs or settings?
