The one thing I would change at the Masters.

Not criticising here as the Masters is the best run and most exciting week on the golfing calendar, but if there is one thing about it I could change it would be the playoff holes.

I love the sudden death format, but I think the playoff holes aren't the most exciting holes on the course.

How awesome would it be for the playoff to start on 12 and just go in order from there?

The pressure of having to play 12 straight off the bat would be great theatre. Then moving straigoht to 13 and seeing who has the cajonies to go for the green with it all on the line. The crowd would go nuts over an eagle there to win it.

The reason most playoff holes start at 18 is because that's where the crowd is at the end of regulation. Otherwise you will have thousands of people moving around the course.

 

That said, I agree with you that it would be more interesting to have a playoff start at 12 and move on from there. I'm not a big fan of 18.

The one thing I enjoyed was the slip n slide event on the first fairway when it rains. That is must watch TV and it never gets shown. It should be an annual event. Nothing better than someone in flip-flops or their penny loafers skidding down the fairway and making the walk of shame out the front gate.

Playoff is simply a logistics issue and it has gotten pretty late in the day when they've had them, same reason most events start near where the crowd is.

 

I'd love to see it start on 15, not 12, so I sympathize. But that's a lot of people to be moving around out there and all down in that area if it keeps going.

 

They used to start on 10, so I like starting on 18 better than that, but still a logistical issue.

My criticism is the limited network/Augusta tv coverage. Sat-Sun CBS and only CBS can show live/recorded footage and only during the limited afternoon window that CBS has allotted for it. Same goes for Thu-Fri on ESPN, with a few less theatrics... I don't care if more coverage does equate to more advertising, I'd like to see golf a couple hours sooner, at least on the first 2 days.

We're getting pretty much all of the leaders' 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday, especially, at the Masters the last few years, not sure about the beef there and on Thursday and Friday, there is plenty of golf on TV and available to some extent through the Masters video feed and on Directv - it's really pretty good.

Wouldn't be very good theater ending on 12 or 13 as there are no patrons around those greens. Not a really good look to have it end in a spot where the fans are far away from the action....

can't wait! I was lucky enough to be there on Sunday last year and couldn't sniff 18 for the start of the playoff. I ended up heading for 10 green and hoping for two additional holes. The way that the property is set up would make it nearly impossible for a playoff to start anywhere but 18, unfortunately.

That’s true and something I didn’t think about with the commercials. But I could literally start watching from the first tee shot through the final putt for all days and not think it was to much. I love this tournament and am so happy to see it come and so sad to see it go every year.

I agree on this. People don’t get to see the front alot and it’s plenty tough. I would kill to have tv kickoff at 11. On Thursday-Friday

Leave the course alone. I imagine Bobby Jones would struggle to recognise the place. No other venue gets altered more and not all the changes are for the better. Playing 7 at 450 yards is just pandering to the longer, high ball hitters.

Plus lets be honest... Augusta's not really at the forefront of embracing change. How long did it take them to have women members? what year did they stop enforcing black only caddies?
