The one thing I would change at the Masters.

I doubt LPGA players could hold some of the greens with the lower flights and less backspin than the men.

I disagree. A bunch of old guys play the course most of the time. The greens are very receptive if you hit it to the right spot, plus they could slow the greens down a bit for the ladies if necessary.

I bet if you went back and looked at the Masters winners over the years you would find the winner was generally one of the people who hit their irons the most accurately that year. Sure putting and short game are important, but if you don't place your approach shots good luck making putts.

Move the ladies up to the member tees, slow the greens a bit and they would shoot well under par.

I can't decide whether I'd change the corny music or allow announcers to use the word fans or gallery instead of patrons or interview someone with the cujones to admit that Clifford Roberts was a disgraceful human being.

The AGNC only seems to be interested in discussion one side of their history.

I notice the ANGC seems to rub you the wrong way. Did your folks make you wear a green jacket as a kid, call you Hootie - or something?

Nah....none of that. But "patrons"??? Come on!

What is this, the Metropolitan Opera?

I like the Masters. I've watched it every year since 1964.

But all that sanctimonious baloney wears thin after a while.

The music. The Patrons. green jackets. Butler Cabin. "A tradition like no other."

Gimme a break!

So I have until 2050 to enjoy it until I start to get annoyed. Good to know.

If I could change one thing....it would be to make Thrusday and Friday a national holiday so I didn't have to go to work.

That would be nice. But let's be honest, who reallly works those days anyway? I'm "present" at work those days, but my setup looks like larrybud's on page 3.

First, the guitar and piano intro Gives me chills. Best opening to any sporting event EVER!!

Changes? Put the Masters.com coverage on TV when it comes on the website. I take those two days off work every year and just state at my computer screen until the TV stuff starts. And allow Freddy Couples to play with a handicap. I want him to win so badly and validate his one major.

One more thing. Back the up on 13 so they can’t hit 7-irons into the green. And more pro tracer and ball telemetry on more tee shots

Wouldn't be very good theater ending on 12 or 13 as there are no patrons around those greens. Not a really good look to have it end in a spot where the fans are far away from the action....

This.

The closest any fans can get to 12 green is about 150 yards (behind 12 tee box). Would be pretty anti-climatic for someone to curl in a winning putt with nobody around the green. It's very tough to really tell what's happening on that green as a spectator.

15 would be good. Nice risk-reward par 5 and if it's still tied then go to 16 which is a great amphitheater par 3.

That layout does not lend itself to good logistical fan movement for a playoff. 18 is logical, but there will be more bogeys than birdies and 10 is much the same. 12 would be great except fans can't there. Amen Corner is the best theater but doesn't work for the patrons. If it was doable, No. 2 would be cool because of the eagle prospects, it would be exciting, but not a great fan hole either.

I wouldnt change anything

Same. I was trying to think of something that I would change and couldn't think of anything. Free parking. Cheap food. Fewer fans (which leads to a way more spectator friendly experience than other tournaments), nicest conditioned course you'll ever step foot on.

The only thing I would maybe add is an escalator for getting up some of those hills!

My gripe is their refusal to grow the rough at all. I remember watching a preview of the Masters in 1991 with Lanny Wadkins and his saying the reason why the Masters is so great is that any type of game could win there. And he was right when you look at the champions in the 80's and 90's which consisted of players like Larry Mize, Jose Maria Olazabal, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, Craig Stadler, Nicklaus, etc. Now many of those guys would stand no chance to win because they don't hit the ball long enough.

I think the only answer is grow the rough out some. It doesn't have to be up to a player's knees...Bay Hill can have some difficult rough that isn't all that long. Instead, their answer is to keep the rough the same and make holes longer and then be surprised that a player will have driver 9-iron into 15.

I think this could get the winning score closer to -4 to -10 under each year, make for more different styles of games to be winners and make for exciting golf while keeping the course and the beauty in tact.

One thing.... The routing of holes 1,9,17 and 18.

Holes 17 and 18 are such a yawn after the epic 10-16. Hole 17 has zero zip nada, especially after the Eisenhower fall, And 18... Well, the Tee shot is ok, but the approach to the green... On every other premium course you have some kind of grand view of the club house or so. On Augusta 18 you see a slope.

It's so obvious that the holes 8 and 9 initially were supposed to be the finishing holes. 17 and 18 are like transport holes somewhere in the middle.

My best suggestion for 18 is to be converted to a par 5 and end up somewhere around the 9th green. That requires hole 9 to be moved more to the left and hole 1 to be shortened and converted into a driveable par 4. That should also give the CEO's a chance to make a par on first, should keep them happy.

Just that little thing, otherwise, everything's fine.

I'm an old guy that played it from the members tees and the greens were much slower than for the tournament. But I still didn't shoot well under par. :taunt:

You both are correct. If the LPGA played AN as it's set up for the Masters it would kick their butts. They just don't have the short game that the men have.

Maybe someday they will buy the land behind 12 green so the patrons can go there..... oh, they already did.

The excitement on 17 starts with the green. It's one of the most difficult to putt.

As I recall, Spieth bogeyed it in 2016 to kill his chances for recovering from his disaster at 12.

Simple - allow some visitor tee times at some times so that they give something to the average golfer. They could ballot it like St.Andrews. Price could be high’ish (e.g. Pebble Beach territory). They could regulate it, a couple of tee times a day for a few weeks of the yesr. It is not as if the course is overplayed

As keen, ardent fans of a sport many dream of playing but there’s no hope.

I know it’s their club, their money but golf is a sport for all and the reverence the average golfer has for their place and the support they give the tournament adds to what the members pay for.
