Why are players like Davis Love and Goosen still bothering with the tour?

Well for starters Goosen is 49 so playing on the Champion's Tour isn't an option. Love has a lifetime exemption on the PGA Tour by virtue of his 20 wins. He won only a couple of years ago at the Wyndham or some place like that. He does play the Champion's Tour a little but as long as he feels he's competitive I think he'll prefer to play the regular Tour.

The Competitive mindset of an elite athlete....

Do you want to compete against the best in the world? Or against the guys that used to be the best in the world?

BRILLIANT ! I'll use that analogy on my next wife.

Those players on the champions tour do not make a load more money. The purse for their current tournament is $1.8mil. Valspar is $6.5mil. John Daly has made $80k this year. Goosen has made over $200k.

Look at you with all the actual facts and stuff. The Champions tour is a total farce.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Champions Tour is phased out within the next decade. I suppose as long as they have tournament sponsors it will go on but it's not much of a money maker. The true elites such as Phil or Tiger will never play on the Champions tour either when they reach 50.

Tiger and Phil wont play when they reach 50 but they might play when they get to mid 50's. That would be when the Championship tour will become popular and purses will go up. It will be Tiger playing against the old gang and people will want to see him set records there. And you think they will phase it out when there is a chance for Tiger to join? Ratings for championship tour when Tiger is playing will beat the regular pga. The only question is if Tiger and Phil would want to play. They should as they are competitors..

you’re not thinking like a competitor of their caliber. They would never play a champ tour event when they are exempt into pga tour events

Edit: I shouldn’t say they, but Tiger. What reason does he have when he can still play the big tour

I would be surprised to see Tiger playing on the geriatric tour. I don't think he will. But there is no doubt in my mind that Phil will eventually.

Why Phil?

I don't think we'll see either of them there.

As others have said, after decades at the top of the best tour in the world, how exciting would it be to be at the top of some lesser tour?

Neither one needs a nickel of the money. I know I'd be looking for more fulfilling things to do with all that money and time.

I think the Champions Tour's main function is to pad the retirement of lesser players while providing a modest entertainment. Cheaper tickets, easier to get, smaller crowds - it fills a niche.

Senior majors and maybe a few other events that line up with his business interests. But I’ve long thought Phil is destined for a lead analyst job. Higher profile, and more money than playing in the senior tour. Obviously he has the skills to do it.

1) I am not a davis fan

2) he still has the game and horsepower to play with the kids

3) he EARNED his exemption through a strong career

4) endorsement money is light years better assuming he plays enough events....bonus money especially for good events

5) retirement plan is way better, especially if you can play well enough to top 125 ++

6) he seems permanently tied to the Ryder cup somehow, so staying in front of the players and relevant to them is probably huge

I think it's a good question, but a lot of guys have tried to follow this path
