Bad Sprain Cures?

I'm due to go to the Belfry and play the PGA National and the Brabazon courses a week on Friday.

 

Well, me being me, I decided that this weekend would be a great weekend to fix up my garden with two tonnes of decorative stone chippings. Subsequently, I'm currently laid up with a severe strain to my lower lumbar and I'm worried about recuperating in time for the 30th.

 

Has anybody got any advice or tips on speeding up my recovery? II'm currently trying to rest up as much as possible, with short spells of walking/stair climbing at regular intervals. I've been alternating heat and cold treatments (hot baths, then ice packs) and I've been using NSAID's to reduce inflammation and to help with the pain.

 

The trip is only ten days away and, at this point, I'm even consdering hiring Mr Miyagi to work his magic on my back.

Go see a remedial massage therapist and a physio. The physio will tell you if it's just muscular or worse and they likely will hook you up with a massage therapist who can work out the problem sooner than later. On your trip bring lots of drugs (Aleve, Advil, T1's).

 

For your trip get a small inflatable cushion for your flight. I have one like this and unless you are flying first class those seats can be damn uncomfortable. For a sore back placing this behind you can provide a huge relief. And it folds down to just barely bigger than an Iphone8+.

For the pillow, you'd be surprised at how little air you need in it. Maybe just 1or 2 breaths so don't go filling it up and stuffing behind your back. It will feel like a watermelon if you do.

Not sure there is much you can do aside from wait for the inflammation to go down. A doctor may be able to give a cortisone shot depending on the issue.
