Anything from the DSG house brands are great value IMO.....the Topflite gamer series, including the previously mentioned Gamer Soft. The Maxfli balls too......Softfli/Speedfli(/Straightfli) for 2pc, Ufli Soft/Speed for 4pc urethane options.

So, a couple rounds now with the Snell red and black, and they are just okay. Honestly, I thought they would lead to some sort of epiphany, but alas they are just good, not great. For me, they play more like a mid grade Srixon or a Taylormade A ball and less like a PV1 or TP5.

Funny I find the 2017 XV and the TP5X almost to be twins.

Cobra F7+ - Stiff
Callaway V-Series 3 & 5 wood with Aldila Rouge Silver
Srixon 585 5-AW - Modus 105 Stiff
Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 53 & 58 Degree
EVNROLL ER5
Srixon XV - Yellow

That's interesting. I found it to be exactly the opposite after doing a great deal of side by side testing. They played every bit as well, if not better than my Prov1, Chrome soft and Bridgestone B XS.

There is a very large thread here with people, like myself, raving about the ball and I can see how that might get people's expectations unrealistically high when they try the Snell balls. The big take away from me is that they are every bit as good as premium balls with big names, but at a much lower price. I'm not interested in paying more for a big name and their promotional budget, but that doesn't mean I won't snag some Prov's of someone in the BST on the cheap if they pop up

And for me they feel and play totally different. The TP feels heavy on the face of the iron and jumps off of the driver. The PV1 on the other hand feels crisp off of both the iron and driver but not as lively as the TP5

I played 18 today alternating the TP5x and Snell black. They play similar to each other around the green and partial wedge shots, but the TP is longer both off the driver and on full iron shots. I think I like the snell, but IMO it isn't on the level of the PV1, TP5 or CSx. Then again, they arent as expensive as those balls either.

Wanna real cheap ball? Try the Precept Power Drive ball. It is a two piece ball and you can find a dozen for $5 or less new!

I actually found one on the course and played a few holes with it, it isn't a terrible ball so don't let the price fool you. I think it retailed for about the $20 a dozen or 15 pack roughly but since it was closed out they are cheap! Home Depot carried them months ago and sold them for $5 a dozen and they can still be had for that on Ebay or maybe less.

My normal ball is the Chrome Soft and I could play this Precept ball. I have hit worse ones that cost more!

I like chrome soft in the summer so I am stocking up on the previous version. But I also have been playing around with the new superhot red bold. $29 for 15. Last few seasons my budget ball of choice was yellow supersoft. If Callaway would make a bold red supersoft i would probably play it all year and skip the chrome soft!
