Japanese Forged Wedge Blanks?

I would love to know how to go about buying Japanese forged wedge head blanks directly from a japanese foundry? I know that companies like Scratch, Wishon and KZG buy heads from Japan and just do the grinding. I just would like to know if an individual could do the same just on a smaller scale for a hobby? Surely with the vast knowledge of the Golfwrx'ers somebody will have information on how to do this. I would greatly appreciate any info.

there was alot of people saying you could get them off tourspec golf. But i emailed them and you have to buy 100. i dont know anywhere that you can only but like 5

I would say that most perople are out of luck when it comes to getting blank heads, unless you are going to make a large purchace or your an OEM. . I have several contact at one of the Best foundries Japan, lets see what I can get for info.

Have you tried calling Ari at Scratch to see if he will sell you some? Be honest and up front of what you are wanting to do. You never know. The worse that he can do is say no.

The Rest of the wedges are in CNC milling, although some in RAW format , but just with a logo on them.

This is not a true statement. We do not buy "blank" heads all of our wedges are 100% our designs using dies that we have made and own exclusively. This is no different from any other OEM TM, Cally, Titleist etc.

Sorry about that Ari. I should have known that you guys have total control over the design of your wedges from start to finish. I really was just meaning that the heads that you design come from the foundry blank with no stampings and no grind. So you have complete control of how the end product looks and performs. I have done a few different grinds on some of my own wedges as well as hand making some putters. I am a perfectionist about the look of my clubs I know what I want and I just haven't found it yet in the wedge department. I love the look of a vokey but hate the feel and hate the fact that there aren't any high bounce options. I've been forced to buy a 56 degree wedge and bend it to 58 or 59 to get the bounce like I want which in turn makes the wedge have almost negative offset. I'm positive that Scratch could make me the exact wedge I need, but I just can't afford to at the moment. I thought if I could get my hands on some blanks I could make my wedges exactly how I want. It might be a little impractical but thought I would ask since there is more knowledge and experience about wedges and golf in general on here than probably any where in the world.

Tour Spec will sell them or at least they would last year. I think that they were around $68 when I inquired about them last year. Don't quote me on that though.

You are wrong about Wishon. He designs every clubhead that he stamps his name on.

Where do you think the clubs you are playing came from? Most every club is made in China because that is the only way to make them affordable. If they were made here a driver would cost $700 or more and a set of irons would cost $2000 or more. No one could play golf if your bag cost you $5500 dollars. I am all for US made stuff but China does a wonderful job with golf clubs and I am glad they make them because it leaves me money to play golf.

The clean looks very good. Unfortunately I am not able to grind a wedge and don`know anybody who is able to do it.

What will be the swingweight for the raw head without grinding? :tongue:

Try to get prove where those head was forged before buying for the price they are asking. Anything completely blank can be from any where in this world.

 

Anybody can get these heads for $7-$10 from a "rinky dinky" factory and claim it anything they want and sell it with 1000% mark up.

 

I can get an American forging company from their modified hand picked old mold/die with one of the best quality carbon steel and sell it as a RAW RAW head if the market is big enough.

 

However, If I look at it from your guys point of view...I would rather pay a little more from a pregrind blank heavy head that have a untouch sole area and slightly bigger head shape, this way you can reshape the head to your desire look and grind the sole to your desire style. These type of head still require grind skill and thr right tooling, But it's a lot less labor and tooling IMHGO. I hope I didn't give an idea to some joe golfer to run his forging machine as we discuss this. :)
