#TheWRX: The EPIC Event at Callaway Golf. 8 Members are treated to TheWRX

Recommended Posts

Our weather has been getting better and better.....usually over 0 now most days.

We had a really weird winter. It was absolutely freezing in December and early Jan. But we had a really mild January/February and most of March so far has been mild

I haven't thought about golf clubs in a while. Thankfully i got fit when we did. They still work great

FYI i got my SS measured at 118 last weekend. The Epic is still holding up though. I keep hoping i'll cave it and they'll send me a rogue :)

You rogue, you. :-)

I played Torrey Pines South on the simulator. The yardage was 6700. I couldn't hit driver because the ceiling wasn't high enough for me. I shot a 79. Gotta love sim golf...good for the ego. lol

Haha, some of those long par 4's are a little easier on the sim. I think i tripled 4 in real life. The rough is worse when it's real

Amen Jeff! The rough is really non-existent on the simulator. I would like to play it again. What a great golf course.

We are buried under snow as well, and supposed to get more this coming Tuesday.

I finally broke down and played a round of golf on a simulator. :-)

Man, that sucks, Sean. I hope you guys up north get some relief soon.

This is the first winter in at least 12 years that I couldn't get out and play regularly. We haven't gotten a lot of snow, but temps have been too cold.

Thanks Rod. We are all going a bit batty. lol

You would think we live in Canada. ;-)

Now I know what guys like Jeff and Scott go through every year.

I'm getting close to the start of our season. April 1 is when it officially starts, but courses won't be in normal shape until end of April/beginning of May if weather cooperates.

I have enough going on so I'm not going to rush back into it.

I was aable to get out twice in Florida last week. Won't be playing around here (Wash DC area) for a while. 6-10 inches of snow tonight-tomorrow and then the ensuing swamp after it melts. I heard on the radio yesterday that this could be only the 3rd itme in history that we won't get to 60* F in March.

Seems like the jet stream is dipping pretty far south, and doesn't seem to have any plans to change in the near future. The last time I played my home course was late last November. And, yes, when things do open up the courses will be quite swampy. I remember a time when you could get out at least a few times in March...not so much any more. Last year we didn't have our first day in the 60s until May.

We are supposed to get 1-3 inches tomorrow and then temps back up to 50 on Thursday.

Forecast shows more snow possible on Sunday morning, but temps are supposed to be up around 60 by next Wednesday.

Let's hope this is the end of all the white stuff! I need my golf fix!

Roll call, how many Epics are still in the bag?

Good for good, it is the longest driver I have tested. When I'm swinging it well, it is really good. But I feel like it lacks a little forgiveness when I'm off.

I've messed around with the PING G400 and Taylormade M4. Now, I'm testing a M3 head-to-head with the Epic. So far, they offer a little bit more forgiveness, especially on my common toe miss.

I feel the same way. I have still not tested a driver i can hit further. I can't even find a driver with the same sensation, which i would describe as hitting an explosive knuckleball. I have access to a pretty good monitor which i use every Saturday and Sunday, and between my Epic and G LS i would say the 10 longest drives i've hit all winter have been with the Epic

That being said, if you told me i had to hit a fairway on 18 to win a tournament, i'm picking the G LS pretty much every day of the week. It's idiot proof and in my testing only about 3-4% shorter. And that doesn't make much difference when you are basically a hulking adonis like i am now anyway.

Did you like the G400 better than the G?

I hit only the standard G400 and it didn't give me anything extra. I have never hit the G400 LS

I think it looks, sounds, and feels better but is basically the same driver otherwise. Which isn’t a bad thing.

I’m using a rogue SZ driver and standard rogue fairway now. Honestly the driver is a wash. I couldn’t tell a difference in forgiveness and distance but I like the shape a little bit more. The fairway I haven’t hit enough but I think it’s about the same as my epic as well.

Switched from an Epic SZ to a Rogue SZ this year, and while I can't quantify this I can say with certainty that I'm hitting fewer drives that hurt my scores this year. Seems to me that if looking for differences between Epic and Rogue on Trackman that they really aren't there to be found assuming both are well fit, but out on course over the course of several rounds the difference becomes unmistakable. That being Rogue (in all three forms) is much more user friendly than Epic was. Rogue is an upgrade in playability across a wider range of the player ability spectrum

The Rogue fairway wood is another kettle of fish. Compared to Epic, I find Rogue to be notably longer and improved aesthetically in every way. My std. Rogue 3+ is a nasty hombre.

The rogue SZ fairway has the best shape of any fairway in a long time imo. I just wanted a little more help with the standard.

The Rogue FW's are quite like the Epic drivers in that the model you would expect to be substantially more forgiving (Epic driver, Rogue FW) really aren't. They differ visually at address, but that's by far the biggest difference. Jailbreak in the FW could make it tough on engineers to move the CG back far enough to see much difference in forgiveness, perhaps.

Anyone grab a Rogue hybrid yet? Still struggling with that slot in the bag

I looked at them last time I was in Dick's and didn't really care for the shape.

I'll try to hit the range or Dicks today after the rain stops (no snow thankfully) and the cabinet installers get here.

yep! My wife decided it was time after 18 years. We did a new granite counter top 8 years ago that she still likes and I did a tile backsplash she wants to keep. So, the contractor removed the granite without breaking it or ruining the backsplash, so far, and started removing the cabinets. They should be all down by the time I get home today. Of course, this will lead to painting, new curtains and blinds, etc.
