Indoor Putting Green

Recommended Posts

So I am wanting to put a synthetic putting green in my house and wanted to gauge y'alls experience.

I am not looking to recreate a room or anything (Wife would kill me).

Looking for around a 4 foot by 15 foot green that i can lay down on the carpet and get the truest roll possible.

I have looked at the below URLs. Please chime in and let me know what y'all think of the below or have other options you think are better suitable.

http://www.birdieball.com/4-x-14-deluxe-package/

https://www.starprogreens.com/product/4x12-foot-5-hole-professional-portable-putting-green/

Thanks for the input in advance.

Very popular choices and I'd like to offer another, if I may? The True Links indoor/outdoor trainer. It's a little more expensive but I've had a 13-footer for 11 years and it's survived two high school golfers and a basement flooding. Well worth it if you're serious about indoor putter training.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Could I trouble you for a weblink?

Obviously you can tell its turf instead of grass right, however does it roll true, do you have it on top of carpet or a hard surface?

It’s not turf. It’s Foam. The birdie ball is very functional but leaves a lot to be desired from an aesthetics perspective

I have a birdie ball 4x14 that I keep on tile floors. It is outstanding for a foam practice green of its quality at its price point.

It rolls true. I especially like that I can easily stick short tees in it to anchor my putting mirror. Chipping onto it is also nice, as the ball reacts similarly (not perfectly, obviously) to how it would on grass: great alternative to practicing in inclement weather.

It is packaged rolled up, so you may need to initially place some books/heavier objects on the ends to flatten it out when you unroll it.

Great review exactly what I needed to hear. Going to leave the thread open for a bit, in case someone has another option I have not seen on the web. However due to the pricepoint and the reviews on the birdie ball it is probably what I will go with. Have you tried using it on top of carpet?

Do you have an aversion to Big Moss? They have a few indoor greens in that size and their Commander greens can be used indoors or out. Link below.

Anyone have any experience with this company? Never heard of them before, but their stuff looks interesting.

I have not used it on top of carpet. According to Birdie ball's website, it will perform better if the surface underneath is firmer.

Tour Links. It’s a significant step up in quality from Birdie Ball etc.

https://tourlinks.net

It costs a bit more, but is possibly the best investment I’ve made in my game.

Can the tour links greens be used outside as well? I have a big back yard and have thought of ordering one of the medium sized models and stoning around it/planting some flowers to make it look like a built in. I have gotten a quote on a custom green build out from a landscape company and its outrageous compared to going this route in a DIY situation

I got a 3 x 15 strip from Pro Putt Systems for just under $300, and I love it !. They also have a 2 x11 strip at $189, and a 1 x 9 for $79 It's fantastic turf, it rolls nice and you can chip and pitch to it. And it can be put outside. They even sell bulk turf at 15ft widths with which you can design your own outdoor set-up with padding and fringe.

Thank you for the URL. Did you buy one of their pre-packaged models or a custom set up?

I bought the pre-packaged 13' model.

Ditto

I'm a huge fan of my Big Moss. To me it's much higher quality than the Birdie Ball I used to have.

They say you can, but the turf is really not suited for outside use IMHO and you can't chip to it like you can with thicker carpets. Your better off going with a custom installed green or one of the DIY options from Big Moss, ProPutt or Golf Gear Box.

I’m a big supporter of Big Moss as well. Been to where they manufacture them and witnessed them put a couple of pieces together. Very very impressed and super pleased with the quality. True rolls and plenty of different options to suit the dimensions you are looking for. Additionally, they work hand in hand with Michael Breed to produce his putting greens. Breed was on the phone with them while I was there.

The indoor/outdoor set-up they have will be my next purchase.

If you have any specific questions for Tony (the owner), either DM them on Twitter or give them a call.
