2018 Titleist AVX Golf Balls

AVX felt softer to me, didn't bite as hard and seemed to just fly straight off the irons... I only got to put one in play but I was impressed overall. Maybe like a lower spinning B330 RXS, but felt a little softer then the RX.

Slightly less spin on approach shots, more rollout on driver shots, not going to bite and check like a ProV1 if you play the “low spinner”. I find it has just about enough approach shot stopping power and short game control for my game and the extra roll off the tee is great. If I depended on high spin stop-on-a-dime chipping and pitching it probably would not work for me as well.

Agreed. And for me, it flies straighter.

Not really anything to do with clubhead speed. It is just a less spin, lower trajectory ball. If those things sound appealing it's worth checking out for sure. AVX has been a great choice for me!

Thank you - just been looking for a high end distance ball. All the ones I find are rocks.

Guess the lower compression makes it feel softer. Cant wait to compare to the ProV1s.

I game the AVX ball, previously was a ProV1 ball. IMO, the AVX is longer, lower spin with the driver, enough spin for approach shots with long irons and wedges. Doesn’t have the same bite around the green as the Pro V’s, but I adjusted by landing the ball 5 feet further away from the pin and let it roll out. Great ball and I have scored my lowest rounds with them.

I found the AVX and new Tour Soft to perform about the same. The only difference was the softer feel in the Tour Soft

You either have much more clubhead speed than me or you play on softer greens. The AVX has less spin than ProV1 but far more than 2pc Surlyn balls.

Carl’s Golfland has had them in stock since December. Bought a sleeve but have not done anything more than chipping and putting on my indoor green.

I was given one and played it for a couple of rounds. In the winter in the PNW, hard to really tell performance characteristics because everything is so soft and receptive.

The balls seems to travel the same distance off irons and woods and the ball stops well on the greens (but just about everything will in the wintertime) and putts as softly as a Pro-V1. Would be a great winter ball if I could buy them and the price was around $29/dozen. Much more than that and I would buy other last-gen top-tier golf balls on closeout to play instead.

I went through a dozen of them. It is very durable. Long game it plays well and is good in the wind. I went back to the Pro V because the AVX just doesn't have the grab around the greens.

5 hcp. Been chipping and putting with it on a visit to San Diego area from the Midwest, and played 18 with it. Great off the driver, very stable, feels good off the irons too. Hard to tell if longer, but not shorter for sure. And very straight - or maybe that’s my new game this year (hope springs eternal).

I switched from prov1x to tp5x last year, and I think I will be switching again. AVX seems like a winner. I would like to see it cheaper, but I don’t think it will be, and a couple bucks won’t kill me. For what it is worth, both my pro and the local big box have them in stock back home too.

I can't normally tell a big difference in premium balls, but I can tell a difference with the AVX. Whatever the interaction is between my swing and this ball, I am longer with it than I am with ProV, ProVx, TP5X, BX, BXS.

The down side is that it doesn't bite as much as those other balls around the green. If I were playing on the hard dried out greens that the tour guys are playing, then it probably wouldn't be an option, but on the greens that I play, it works just fine.

To me the gain in distance combined with the feel is enough for me to switch over to it. Hopefully the 5/1 date is accurate as I have ab 15 balls left and no stores close to me that carry it

The AVX is a beautiful ball. I played Pro V1s for years and then Chrome Softs. I then switched to Titleist NXT Tours in hopes to gain some distance. Distance I gained but short game control was lost. Been playing the AVX and the trajectory of this ball is beautiful and fly's true. Distance stayed the same if not a hair longer at times. Short game control has improved.

Demo day last week I asked what the AVX was bringing to the table compared to the Pro V1.

Was told a slight loss of short game spin/feel, a noticeable distance gain off irons and negligible distance difference off the driver.

Same price point as V1/X.

Launching in all markets May 1. The day after the buy 3/1 free offer ends. Coincidence? :no2:

Supposedly less spin off driver too right? also, when you say launching in all markets, do you mean they wont be limited anymore, and in regular production everywhere?

Yes, relatively less spin off the driver for straighter flight but little, if any, distance gain. Supposedly the composition of the layers produced more iron spin for longer carries.

All markets meant available beyond the initial test markets.

Wide release means they will actually list it as a real ball on their web page and it will be in every pro shop that carries other Titleist balls. And accounts can order how many ever they want.

It's been nationwide for months now but only in limited quantities and only at certain retail outlets. The true test period in just three states or whatever only lasted about 8-10 weeks early last Fall.

They must be expecting decent sales or they would not make it a new official model. Also, people taking the Titleist ball plant tour since at least November has been seeing an entire production line churning out AVX full-time.

I stocked up with several dozen off eBay when I first decided I liked the ball. While I'm glad to see that I'll be able to buy them easily after my current stash runs out I am not 100% convinced it will be my long-term choice. So far, the extra distance (off the driver for me, not so much irons) is worth the short-game spin I'm giving up. But if I'm honest the spin on 30, 40, 50 yard wedge shots is a little less than ideal for me. Have to see how that works out come mid-summer when conditions are super-firm. Might end up back with ProV1x yet!

Our Rep was in last week and gave one of our assistants a dozen. Said AVX is for players who flight it higher (looking for lower flight) and is softer than Pro V1 and is longer than both Pro V1 and Pro V1x. Had a guy from Fla who played one for 10 rounds straight, and not a scuff, so super durable.

I am a 7 capper with a decent club head speed, distance off the driver was about the same as v1x, tpx, but i must say remarkably straight. Distance off the irons i think were maybe a 1/2 club longer, again straight ball flight. feel off the putter was no softer than v1. i put a lot of spin on my chips and i did not see in difference in bite or check. Would I play this ball again? Most definitely. Shot 1 under on 9 holes today. It does have a totally different dimple pattern that any Titleist.
