Famous People you ran into during a round of Golf...

It doesn't count, but I met Annika Sorenstam during an autograph session at Golfsmith several years ago.

On the range, mainly at Westlake CG:

Sylvester Stallone - Very nice guy. Seemed very approachable.

Fred Couples- He was hitting a few spots down from me, just lobbing wedges into the side of the hill.

Kelsey Grammer- Embarrassing story. He was there with two kids and I had my son with me. My son was about 6 or so at the time (He's 31 now). My son lightly shanked a shot that stopped in front of Kelsey, who was hitting in the next stall. Before I could stop him, my son ran in front of him to retrieve his ball. I apologized and he was very gracious and said, "That's ok, my kids have done that too."

Danielle Kang- In her pre-LPGA days when she played for Pepperdine. I work at Pepperdine and I see several of our Ladies' team member on the range often at Westlake.

Missed seeing Padrig Harington on the range by a day this past spring :(

Came out of a pro shop, rounded the corner, and damn near knocked Ben Crenshaw over. Sadly, I didn't realize who he was until I got to the top of the stairs and it hit me....I froze for a second and had that "holy s***" moment you get only a few times in your life.

Played with Jim Harrick. Talked hoops most of the time. He had insight and analysis on Lebron that blew me away. He told me to watch his feet. I can't stop watching his feet now.

Played with Teemu Selanne a couple of times.

Played behind Paul Goydos.

Played in front of (and in the same game) as Brendan Steele.

Met Phoenix (bass player from Linkin Park) and Tre Cool (drummer from Green Day) in a pro shop.

Got on the first tee (par 5) and saw a six-some on the green ahead of me. I was like WTF?? I looked at my playing partner and said it was going to be a long day but it was just the two of us so maybe we can play through on the next hole. We couldn't catch these guys and didn't see them until the 13th. It was Mark Wahlburgh and literally his entourage. Only two of the six were actually playing which is why we couldn't catch them. But I got to talk to the orginal "Turtle" which was cool I guess.

I've ran into a few like Michael Jordan, Mark Wahlberg, Steve Martin, and a bunch of other athletes like Josh Beckett and Dmitri Young.

My favorite though, for all the Entourage fans out there, was Kevin Dillon or "Johnny Drama." BSed with him for a while after the round. Super nice and cool guy. Solid golfer too.

Here in suburban Virginia, I've run into a few athletes. Met Joe Theisman on the range one day at a local higher-end public course. Tyler Clippard (Nationals reliever at the time) played in a pro-am at my home club. Chris Cooley Skins tight end, retired) played in an interclub match at my home club last weekend. I had the most interaction with Chris, he stuck around after the matches for a few beverages and a bite to eat, seems like a really good guy. Nothing bad to say about the other two, just didn't get to sit and talk with them.

I keep trying to recall somebody, anybody remotely famous I've met or played with on the course and keep coming,up with the same answer, no one.

Cough, cough.

I was going to list you, but you listed some guy named Michael Jordan over me. And to use Hawkeys's favorite new line, now I'm all butt-hurt!!

I was thinking you'd say VNutz!

Good use of BH, too.

Plus DP, if I posted that I had played with you the entire board would know that you have no standards and will play with any riffraff that shows up. There would be a steady stream of undesirables heading towards Chicago.

I was playing in our local am tournament I think in ‘05 at Saratoga International and Bill Parcells came up to hang out at the tee box. The guy was genuinely friendly. Seemed like he loved being on the course.

Parcells was a member at Saratoga National at a point in time. I've seen him there on a few occasions back in the day.

A slightly different "Famous" golfer..... back in the day (read 30 years ago) I was a police officer with the local department.....I had taken the afternoon off and was at a local "muni" playing with a fellow officer who had the day off. We were playing as just a 2 man group as the course was pretty quiet that day.

As we passed the pro shop after the front 9 one of the shop staff called out to us and asked if we minded having a single join us for the back 9........ "no problem" ....So this big guy comes out and joins us....... can't say I actually recognized him right off, but I had an uneasy feeling about him as we played....as we played and chatted I finally remembered who he was .... Robert Satiacum .... at the time he was on the FBI's top 10 most wanted list in the States...he was in Canada claiming refugee status.

A few months later he was arrested and convicted in Canada for child sex charges and subsequently died of a heart attack while in jail awaiting extradition.

Famous or infamous??

  • 2 weeks later...

Chi Chi Rodriguez at El Conquistador in Puerto Rico and at Dorado Beach on separate occasions. Wayne Gretzky at Shadow Creek

Nice guys.

Can't believe I forgot Merrill Reese. Played with him twice!

Very Cool!!! Used to see him at Golf Galaxy in Langhorne, PA where I worked for a bit in college. Nice guy. Go Birds!!!!!

Another one I forgot was Michael Vick. Played ahead of him as a single. The assistant pro followed him in a cart to keep folks away. The superintendent's geese chasing dog however ran from him and hid.....for some reason....
