Everyone is a big hitter on the forum

I can’t stand it when a debate over distance constantly ends up with a reference to a PGA Tour player and his numbers. 90% of the guys on tour have no idea what a 300 yard carry looks like. Then people say things about the pro’s launch and speed numbers (which are on Trackman by the way) and at the same time tell wrx members their numbers are lies but are also on Trackman. You can’t have it both ways

I can't tell exactly whether you're for or against...

Kymar is correct.

This website is not really filled with “average” golfers.

This site attracts current and ex high school and college players, current and past PGA teaching pros, and simply a great many hard core golfers that take the game very seriously, take lessons, work out, and practice regularly to be as good as they possibly can be.

This site has an unusual number of very good, and tending to go hand in hand with that, very long hitting golfers as compared to the general golfing public.

I think I’m probably a perfect example. I was a +2 teaching pro back in the 90’s. Im now 50 years old and doing something else professionally, but I still hit a ton of balls, I still play a lot of good golf, and I still can regularly hit it 300+ yards as long as I’m getting 15 or 20 yards of roll out. That isn’t a brag. It is a fact.

I RARELY ever go play as a single and have anyone that is within 30 yards of me off the tee. HOWEVER, that being said, almost any time I arrange to meet a fellow WRXer for a round, I almost always find that they pretty darn long. Maybe 10 to 15 shorter, occasionally 10-15 longer, but almost always in the same ball park.

Now as far as people on here saying they swing the driver 125+ mph......well....Eeehhh. A few do.

Well said. There are plenty of forums on the web for various topics, and I would say they all attract people who are serious about what they do.

I wouldn’t be interested in following a farming forum simply because I have a a 10ftx10ft tomato patch.

I wouldn’t think a guy with a 99 mustang v6 would be as interested in following topics on a sports car forum.

So, I would agree that the average golfer is not as well represented here.

So, I would agree that the average golfer is not as well represented here.

Nonetheless, when bragadoccio exceeds the average touring pro, and the phrasing suggests it, any reasonable person would be skeptical.

Some feats couched here as commonplace would make Finau, Mcilroy and DJ blush.

So I will stipulate to this site hosting several elite amateurs and even a handful of professionals, but I won't believe the suggestion that the average golfer's 180 is a WRX 300. More like 250, and 270 w roll out on a firm day.

Commonplace? There is a very small percentage of posters here who actually claim to be able to hit it as far as as the top guys on tour. I had a poll awhile back and if I remember correctly, only about 10% anonymously claim they would take on a bet for a 280 carry. Some 250 or so voted, while definitely not a large sample of the size of site, it provides a good idea that trumps the “commonplace- wrx long” argument that the short, fairway splitting, supreme ball strikers elude to.

I feel like the short, crooked hitting players are woefully underrepresented here!

on this forum my username has no romantic connotations whatsoever. But on the ladies side of the clubhouse I am known as "Lo Stallone Selvaggio".

I can hit the ball 300, but it takes the right circumstance...center contact, maybe a bit of breeze at my back, and a good kick/roll. They're the exceptions, as I rarely hit the sweet spot and my home course fairways usually play quite soft. 270 - 280 is my typical good drive, but I'm probably more routinely in the 250-260 range due to sub-par contact. SS is in the 105-112 range, for reference.

I think the last round I played I had one drive that ended up just at or a little over 300. A +-470 par 5 and was left with 163 on my approach.

I think there are more people that can stretch it to 300 now than there’s ever been but I bet there’s a reason nobody is following up their humble brag with their FIR stats!!!

I hit on TrackMan that the PING sprinter van had out to our range last week and was getting 120 clubhead speed/176 ballspeed/310 carry/340 rollout. I’m a low capper w/ a long tee ball, but I get away with it because if I hit 8 drivers I’m only hitting 3 or 4 fairways but my misses are setting me up with a whole bunch of short irons. There’s a trade off for sure. They guys who hit it 335 and hit many fairways are all on tv and not on the forums.

I am NOT a bomber. I'm reasonably long. I have driven short par 4 greens in the 320-340 range under favorable conditions. I have seen and played against several guys that can drive these same greens with hybrids. Those guys are bombers. I have hit long 600+ yd par 5s in 2 with 280-300 yard 2nd shots in favorable conditions. I've seen other guys hit their 2nd shots from 20+ yards in front of me and hit 4 or 5 iron into the green from 260-280 on the same holes. Those guys are bombers. Certainly there are a lot of guys on this forum that can do that. I think many self proclaimed "bombers" are simply the longest player in the groups they regularly play with. I used to see myself that way but when I ventured out into the world a little more I learned better.

Oh NO, a freak is a guy I play with a few times a year, that brings his 4.5 degree Callaway out, drives it over the green on the first hole, at 420.....THAT is a freak......He's a WLD/Remax type guy, won a couple years ago......It helps to be 6'6" , 260..........

My average based on my numbers are around 290 carry around 300 with rollout...

I played college baseball. Learning when I was five how to swing one object at another object and perfecting that for 20 years helped.

I used to think I hit it pretty far consistently.

Until my buddy brought out a guy who does some of the mini tours. And works at a course. Played most of his life. That guy carries the ball over 300 and makes it look so much easier than anyone else i play with.

No I didn’t miss the point at all. I was just commenting on your statement that “The guys who hit it 335 and hit many fairways are all on TV and not on the forums”. Which is commonplace in these type of threads where people associate being long with meaning you should be on tour.
