Another Kapalua question

Playing there soon, and will probably only be able to get one round in for the entire stay on the island.

Do I bother to bring my clubs, or should I just rent?

Plus, you never know. You might get a chance to squeeze in more golf!

Always travel with them, never rent. If you are going to spend the money to play the course, why not try to at least put up a good score.

Personal choice. I play a ton there so bring my own. If I knew I was only playing 1 round, I'd prolly rent. Dragging clubs between connecting flights is a PITA. You can still have a ton of fun with rented clubs. It's not like you are trying to qualify for the Open. You're just having fun. Do bring shoes.

Ended up bringing them and glad I did. Wasn't too bad traveling with them as I didn't have kids in tow as well.

If anyone is wondering like I did, the Kapalua rentals are AP2s, a Scotty Cameron and 915 woods

A guy I played with rented from Maui Jim Golf and said it was $25 a day and they have practically every club for you to choose from to make up your bag. He pretty much played his exact set of Mizuno MP-64, taylormade wedges and Callaway woods

Yeah, this guy is great. Jimmy's Maui Golf rentals in Kaanapli just near Kapalua. He's got a back corner inside a scuba/snorkel rental place. Super nice guy, and he has decent selection of older $ to newer $$ rental clubs as well. The other place in Kihei - Maui Golf shop, was not bad, and both places offer week long rentals. I miss Maui :(

Don’t want to clutter up the forum with another Kapalua thread, so I’m piggybacking on this one. It sounds like it’s been a really wet winter, and I’m wondering how the conditions are on the Plantation course recently? I’m supposed to play it the day before they aerate at the end of the month, and to shell out what it costs to play there, I’d be really disappointed if it’s in rough shape. Has anyone played it recently and can comment on the conditions? Appreciate any feedback!

You gotta bring your own. Last time I rented I got saddled with a regular flex Callaway Set with graphite irons. I play a 75g x in the driver, 90gx in my fairway and hybrids, x100 iron shafts and s400 wedges. It was the most comical round of golf I’ve ever played ?

I'm supposed to play it the day before they aerate at the end of the month, and to shell out what it costs to play there, I'd be really disappointed if it's in rough shape. Has anyone played it recently and can comment on the conditions? Appreciate any feedback!

I thought the course was closed for major renovations but I guess they will be doing the rennovations on July 9-27.

I'll probably play there in June then Ill post an update.

The course was closed for a few days for aeration—I played it the last day before they did that, and it was in immaculate condition. I believe they expect the course to be basically back to normal within a month.

What renovations are they doing? Major redesign of certain holes or are they resurfacing greens or something similar?
