Rain

I'm retired now, and I dislike rain wind and cold. I have more days I can play now so if it is too uncomfortable I just don't play. Yes, rain just ruins the game of golf, as well as cold and windy days.

Rain for me is all about keeping grips/hands dry. Which is no problem if you have a cart with a rain cover and a dry towel. Walking, light rain or a shower is no big deal. Heavy rain walking, I tried it a few times with an umbrella and a towel up in the spokes just like on tv, and it doesn't work, unless maybe if I had a caddy.

Surprised to hear a UK golfer complaining about rain. Might as well complain about death and taxes.

That depends where you live. If you live in the south east or east rainfall is surprisingly low.

"Parts of England are surprisingly dry, which is contrary to the stereotypical view—London receives just below 650 millimetres (25.6 in) per annum,[47]which is less than Rome, Sydney, or New York City. In East Anglia it typically rains on about 113 days per year.[48] Most of the south, south-east and East Anglia receive less than 700 millimetres (27.6 in) of rain per year."

But just when I thought things were improving they're getting worse.

Played 9 on Saturday in capital district NY, was nice until mother nature decided to screw me over by gifting me a short downpour out of nowhere, radar and weather forecasted no rain till 330, downpour started at 1. Still played well until my glove got soaked. I should grab one of those fancy rain gloves. But regardless, despite shooting well I hated being wet and drying out everything. I guess I'm one of the few that doesn't mind playing in the rain. I don't mind the wind much either, but I hate playing in the cold. I've had some good rounds in the rain. I'm thinking it takes my mind off swing thoughts and whatnot, and forces me to just focus on making good contact. Kind of scary hitting with a forced carry over water though - I've lost a club once that slipped out of my hands.

I absolutely won't play if there's any lightning in the area, given what happened to the Bishop who was having the game of his life.

Since I no longer play tournament golf, if it’s anything more than a light sprinkle or lasts any longer than a couple of holes, I’m out. I used to play in all kinds of conditions because you never know what it’s going to be like during a tourney, so you need to know what to expect from your game. These days, cold and rain will keep me off the course. I don’t mind the wind though. Living on the Texas coast, if you only played on days with no wind, you’d get in 2-3 rounds a year at best.

Depends on the type of rain, if it's a light or misty rain, being from Florida there is nothing better or more enjoyable especially if there is a light refreshing breeze..

Bingo. I actually love playing in a light rain or mist. If it's even a consistent rain I don't really mind unless the puddles start building up.

I used to know what rain is when I lived in NC. But after 4 years in Arizona, I've forgotten. I'm fortunate that I grew up in Florida so heat isn't an issue . I'll take 4 months of 100 to 115 (Fahrenheit) and dry - June through September here in AZ - to 4 months of coldish and dampish and rainish (December to March in NC). Golf is also much, much easier in dry than wet conditions.

As long as it's warm, I don't mind a good wind. I've heard they have a saying in Scotland: "Nae wind, nae golf". They better think that way, since I think it is always windy there. But of course, it's also usually cold and rainy as well, and I haven't heard that they have a saying "Nae cold, nae golf" or "Nae rain, nae golf".

Acceptable Saturday. Pretty good today but there was a comp on and seeing a queue at the 10th with temperature at 24c was just too much. Tomorrow is Rye Hill, Hopefully we choose the yellows (only 6,400) but with temps apparently hitting 26c it's going to be a slog(*). Just got to pace myself.

(*)Stop laughing, you guys in Florida, Texas and the other southern states. It's a matter of what you're used to, right? Bet you guys wouldn't be so good at 10c!

Looking at my April 28th post, it was wet and cold..... It seems so far away .

Today it is 80° F and still climbing , might gain a few degrees before it starts to cool down.

Tomorrow will be even warmer ........ what's going on ? Tee shots will actually release for rolling out and green's surface are getting firm.

Might sneak out early tomorrow to get in a round of 18.

LOVE rain and or wind! I take it as a challenge and drink in every shot. Rain gloves and a water proof coat and I’m off.

I tend to play the same in crappy conditions during tournaments but I’ve seen hundreds of guys get mad, start to pout and I might as well mark their score down on the first hole. I knew they quit before the peg is in the ground.

The only thing I’m not a fan of is really cold weather. In those cases I’d usually rather be doing something else haha.
