Best practices for keeping clubs safe at the course

Recommended Posts

Just ordered an whole new set of PING golf clubs and the thought occurred to me that they might become a target for someone to take at the course.

Ever since I can remember my normal routine when arriving at a golf course is:

Park car

Take my bag up to the club house

Go inside to check-in, use restroom, etc.

Come out and head to first tee, putting green, etc.

Obviously the clubs are a prime target while I'm inside the club house.

How do you guys do it?

I'm even thinking of using non-name brand head covers so as not to bring attention to them.

Thoughts?

Just take them back to the car. Years ago Bethpage was prime picking of high end clubs, some guys we used to see in the bar set up the thieves. They were last seen drinking their burgers

Non oem headcovers will help unless you throw something on there others my deem as “cool” or “sweet”. If you do, that in itself could get your clubs stolen.

I’ve had a g25 hybrid lifted once. I played with a guy a few weeks back that had his odyssey #7 taken from his locker at a high dollar club.

I use generic headcovers on my Woods/driver.

Thanks for the input. Never even heard of anything getting stolen at my usual courses but I'm sure it must happen. I think I will go with generic head covers and going back to the car for the bag after checking in. I'm probably worrying too much but my current set of clubs wouldn't fetch much $$ so I never really thought about it.

I'm glad I play golf in a civilised country :)

Just be careful what you say on Facebook. lol

I've been programming computers since the early 1980s. I'm very IT literate. I don't have a Facebook account. Make of that what you will ;)

I don't either...or twitter, instagram, snapchat, etc. :hi:

Me either. I abhor the social media cesspool. Wrx is the closest I get.

I've had my entire bag stolen. Recently, I've had 2 friends have their range finders taken. Since then we've avoided the munis on weekends. We also put our clubs right by the window of the pro shop/snack shop when we have to go inside. I'll put my clubs in my care before using the restroom.

Ever since my clubs got stolen I've adopted the mentality that if my stuff gets stolen, it's my fault. Seems to be working.

I had a Scotty putter lifted about 6 years ago I found him about 5 minutes later using it on the putting green. I told him we could either call the cops or he could just give it back. Thankfully I was not paired up with that guy that day, or I would have left the course. Now I leave my clubs in my car until after check-in and no issues.

Not quite, I had my bag containing brand new Ping Zing2 irons stolen at Forest of Arden Golf Club in 1995 when I went inside to take a whiz after 9th hole. Those irons hadn't been released in England yet at that time.

One other time, I had raw 588 lob wedge taken from my bag.

I have a long history of activity on online forums. It goes back all the way to CompuServe. I'm currently most active on the General Discussion part of the DigitalSpy forums. Most of the site these days is devoted to all things media but GD remains a cesspit of random foolishness. Thread titles like 'Was Henry the Eighth a Waste of Space?' alongside 'When did you last see a rat?' it continues to amuse :)

How did you not club him with a 9 iron? I wouldn't be able to contain myself!
