Jeff Brauer is redesigning a course 15 minutes from my house. Scheduled to be complete in August. They are sinking 9 million into the course, and 1.5 million into the clubhouse remodel. I can't wait until its open Nothing else like the course design within several hour drive in any direction. It's quite a piece of work!

Whats even better, is its right on my way home from work, so will be easy for me to get in 9 in an afternoon or some short game practice on the top notch short game area.

Tempest Golf Club. I joined as a member last week.

After visiting streamsong I can’t wait to visit more Coore, Doak, and Hanse courses, but unfortunately there aren’t many in my neck of the woods. There’s a Mackenzie course nearby but it’s very private. My home course is a Faz design, and I think he did a pretty good job, but I really like the rustic minimalist designs that seem to be trendy right now. Can’t wait to see what Hanse has done down in Pinehurst, and hope to make it to Bandon once he completes the sheep ranch, and looking forward to seeing #2 after the Coore restoration. Also excited to see what Stranz did with Tobacco Road. A lot of Ed Ault courses near me, but haven’t been to thrilled by them.

Listening to Fried Egg podcast has really opened my eyes to strategic designs. I think Andy is spot on with his width and angles preference. Pace of play is better given how hard it is to lose balls, and overall allows more players across all handicaps to enjoy the rounds. I believe the majority of golfers would agree after playing some of these designs. I also love Dye’s work with the Ocean course and I’d really like to experience harbor town. Coincidentally, Sawgrass is not high on my list of must plays.

1. William Flynn- great golf courses. I've only played a few of his courses but all were A+.

1a. Donald Ross- my favorite designer.

2. Fazio- I like the courses of his that I have played.

3. Pete Dye- the last 3 courses of his that I played were all A. Not a big fan of TPC Sawgrass. I've played that course probably 10 times.

Robert Trent Jones- soured by the RTJ trail in Alabama. Good golf courses but all the courses seem to be mass produced and designs similar in nature. Good courses but similar holes with changes in geography. I will say that the Dunes in Myrtle Beach is one of the top 5 courses that I have ever played.

George C. Thomas - Riviera stands out as one of the few courses I have played where litterly every hole is different in concept. Pete Dye also has this ability when given full reign with bull dozers in reshaping the property - most notably at TPC Sawgrass (another favorite) and the Ocean Course (which I have played a bunch; not necessarily a favorite though). However, I am not a huge fan of Pete Dye "redos" like the VT River Course or Keswick Resort.

Also, I am fortunate enough to get to play on a Coore and Crenshaw every week (one of the courses at my home club).

I'm most interested in CB MacDonald and Seth Raynor, though I've never played one of their courses. I lust at the design though.

Currently, I enjoy every Coore and Crenshaw course.

Last place- Rees Jones

We'd get a long. I have played 1 Raynor course (Camargo) and thought it was exceptional. I would love to play more of his tracks.

Modern day, I love playing C&C tracks. Minimalist designs and super fun layouts to play. I have played a handful of them now and they all rank highly on my list.

Rees Jones is the devil. I have played 3 Rees Jones tracks and I don't enjoy playing them. I find them to be pretty beautiful courses but horrible layouts from a golf perspective (I'm pointing at you, Quintero and Legend Trail).

Arthur Hills is a guy I think is pretty underrated as well. Being a Midwest guy originally, I feel Hills has done some of the best work in designing courses that simply scream 'midwest'. His work at Longaberger is incredible. Hills' designs have always just suited my eye. Legendary Run, Shaker Run, his course at Boyne in Michigan. and who can forget Bay Harbor? I could go on about his courses in the Midwest which I just enjoy playing.

Dye has had such a long career and really the only one who was designing from the 60's-70's when Nicklaus, Fazio started up. He was the only new designer during this period and often seen where 1960 onward is considered modern.

What about Mike Devries? he plays nicely with your minimalist modern favorites.

Don't think I've played any of his courses. At least, I don't think I have. I'll give him a look.
