I think that it first has to be trained consciously for most people. It is not really a natural move.

Not if it's not already part of your swing. There's nothing natural feeling about keeping right wrist bend and turning your knuckles down (or however one prefers to describe it) if you haven't been doing so.

 

There will be some folks who don't even know that these movements are important. And there are also folks (like me) who know they're important, but who find them hard to incorporate. I, for one, need to consider these moves consciously/as a conscious action with the hopes that they become ingrained and ultimately become a subconscious part of my swing.

Different people need different cues to absorb certain feelings or to get to certain positions in the swing, and it makes sense to exaggerate that thing that you're trying to change.

 

My pro was struggling to help me swing down in the slot. We finally figured out that what worked for me was the feeling of trying to bow my left wrist at the top. What I feel as "bowed" is probably flat at best, but for some reason that's the swing thought that helped me begin the downswing in the slot and stay there. I don't know exactly why, but this guy's videos seem to support that thinking about hand positions works for some players. It has worked for me.

 

The next feeling I want to get is also described in this guy's videos, that one about turning over the left arm past impact. I don't think I can increase my swing speed but I hope that more hand action might help me find more distance.

I was missing everything right with my driver in the first couple of rounds this year. Same on the range. Last year my driver control was the strongest part of my game.

 

I was assuming it was swing plane or my arms not catching up, or something similar. Turned out it was just my arms/hands not turning over enough on the downswing.

 

I tried 'revving' my hands tiny bit more on the downswing and all was fixed. Didn't need to touch anything else.

 

So for me I guess I did it unconsciously last year and just got a little bit out of sync at the start of the year. Right now it's absolutely a conscious move for me.

It’s ok. Pretty basic. He’s absolutely right about the left arm rotation being important, but that’s an extremely basic concept that only beginners wouldn’t be familiar with.

 

Adding flexion of left wrist is fine, but it’s very difficult if not impossible to do so in a full swing for most without a pretty week grip. It’s looks good without a club and in slow motion swings, but he gives no practical tips to do it at full speed, presumably because there are none. Much better to try to get the flexion closer to transition and much easier too.

 

Adding extension to trail hand like that is disastrous for most. The right wrist is bent back to a certain extent in good players, but it gets there from the arms speeding up, not by trying to add it in at such a late point.

 

So he has a 1.5 points correct out of 3, which is a pretty good score for a YouTube video, thus I amend my initial review from “ok” to “decent”

The point is that for most right handed golfers the biggest challenge is learning how to use the non-dominant left arm/hand properly. Once that is mastered, it's then much easier to fix the more coordinated dominant right arm/hand.

He gets it ... right hand/arm working UNDER while the left continues to try to work OVER. Starting at 1:37 he demonstrates the "curl under" move with the right hand/arm. (The left palm facing the target in the finish is a vapor trail.)
