Transition to blades

I'm making the switch to blades as of this week. Past two sets have been Ping Anser, and Srixon 765, and now I'm playing Miura Small Blades. After a couple days at the range, I've noticed my baby blades are about 1/2-1 club shorter than my Srixons (all lofts ~2* weaker so kinda makes sense), and mishits are really punished distance-wise. Whenever you miss the sweet spot, you lose easily 10-20 yds. Aside from that, I'm loving them. My miss is on the heel side anyways, which isn't nearly as bad as missing toe side with blades.

All in all, i'm enjoying the change of pace. We'll see if my index changes much as the year progresses. If I can't keep my scores where I want them to be, out with the blades, back to the players CB. Not really any downside to going back if this doesn't work out... those who think they "can't work the ball" enough with a players CB probably aren't good enough to do it with a blade anyways. It's plenty easy to work the ball with either club.

Surely you're mistaken.

DeNiney went to great lengths to "prove" to everyone that blades are as (more ?) forgiving (according to HIS definition - I guess - couldn't get through his entire novel).

But good luck with your blades. Hope you enjoy them.

Did you even READ the 2 college text books that are a prerequisite to engaging in debate about the infallibility of the Miura Baby Blade?

What don’t you take your own advice from the thread I started asking about JDM drivers < 400 cc and (dare I say) play something like an AP2? You physics majors are all the same....

Haha, he seems like a nice enough guy so I won't get into it at length, but as another engineer I can definitely say he's oversimplified the physics to arrive at his conclusion. Lets not derail this thread though.

Haha touche.

I may just end up taking your advice (as per my first post) and put my 765's in if these cause me problems!

  • 3 weeks later...

Update of transition: Completed my first competitive event of sorts with the MP18s in the bag and it was awesome. I hit plenty of shots with each club when there was at least a little pressure involved and was very happy with how I performed with them. I've really enjoyed hitting them and playing with them. I have noticed an increase in distance by about a half club or so, not sure why this is but it could be from a slightly heavier and longer shaft I was fitted for (no reason to complain here).

My favorite part about playing these clubs (aside from the feel) is that they are so easy to flight down and just make it seem like they want to be worked / flighted in a controlled manner. I understand thats not measurable and physics is physics which I agree with. (How a ball moves is just physics, any club can do that) But while holding the club and thinking of a shot, these things just seem to give you a bit more confidence and imagination to play different shots than just a stock swing. Hard to put into words.

tl;dr Transition is going great, these things are saying in the bag.

The not so subtle difference between physics and applied physics.
