Taylormade P790 or Cobra King Forged Tec Blacks

Anyone play the King Black wedges?

took the wedges out on the course today (52 versatile and 56 hi-low)...... and they're super solid. They play about .5" longer than standard wedges because of the connect grips with the arccos sensors and it's definitely noticeable at address. Looks like a 9 iron LOL.

Anyways. I do have to tell you that I have $-taper black 120's to match the irons I ordered. That way I have the same shafts in all my irons and wedges. The cobra's don't spin as much as my cbx wedges, but in a good way. The spin is much more consistent and manageable. My cbx's scuffed balls with anything stronger than a 3/4 swing and I felt it was too much bite. I even spun a full gap wedge pin high, back off the green. Must have spun back over 20-25 feet.

The cobra's with $-taper have a hop and stop on full swings. Exactly how my short and mid irons behave. Gave me much more confidence attacking the pin without the worry of it spinning back too far. This was my first day gaming these wedges, but I was hitting shots that looked like I had practiced with them. 10 yard chip from rough, downhill, not much green to work with, sunk it. Hit a few within 3-4 feet also. I've never been a good "blade/tour" style wedge player, so these really blew me away. I tend to chunk full wedge shots. But not once today. I will never order wedges with standard shafts again. I'm convinced that "MY GAME" is better suited with the same shafts throughout my irons.

I have a 60* TM hi-toe on order. If I don't hit it as well as these wedges, I'll be ordering another cobra wedge soon.

Cobra really got it right with these ones. So my dad will be getting a free set of used CBX's.

I would not consider them high launch. I am a low ball hitter and they launched to low for my liking

THIS is my concern

Without a fitting, it’s a crapshoot, regardless.

For a higher ball flight, they do have the Recoil 780, KBS Tour 105 and C-Taper Lite as higher ball flight options.

If you prefer the feel of a Mid/Low launch shaft, you can always get a custom order at 2° weaker, depending on where your spin is at.

The feel of the Tec Blacks is not as soft as my Razr MBs BUT very close. Not so with the P790’s though, IMHO.

I’ve been playing mine for almost a month now. I LOVE THEM, first time in EVER, that I won’t be looking for new irons. I’m typically a “lower” ball flight hitter, but the FTB with the KBS $ Taper give me a nice mid flight like I want.

Has anyone ordered the FTB when it was listed as “back ordered” and how long did it take to get them?

I have owned both P790 and FTB both with KBS $taper.

Sold the P790's last week. Cobra FTB was a much better iron for me.

I must admit, I’m kinda digging on these new black Cobras.

My Hogan PTx’s are hands down the best irons I’ve ever played, but I may buy a set of forged tec to goof around with.

Every year I try a new set or two just for kicks. Nothing can kick the Hogans out of the bag though. I Throw darts with those bad boys.

I have to ask you a question did you feel the PTX to be kinda hard feeling i purchased a set cuz i just loved the look ,but i have to tell you they don't feel no where near as nice as my Wilson v6 ....Im going to put them on the bay i don't need set of irons i will not use

I don't think the P790 are the underdog as they are the real deal. Cobra makes nice stuff as I've enjoyed their equipment as anytime a brand comes out with an all black set of irons it's hard to pass up. I'm surprised TM hasn't followed

Dude! If you wanna mess around with black irons, you know where to look. It was your Hogan posts that helped inspire me to try them.

are people still liking the King Black Tec? I have been goofing off with a demo set indoors and they have me hooked. I currently play to a 3 and LOOOOVE my MP18 MBs with pro modus 120 S. My iron play is a strength but something about the Dark Side is pulling me in. Someone please help shove me toward the Dark or away from it.

I'm still loving mine, other than the fact that I found recently that my 9 iron is a reg flex and the rest are stiff. lol. contacted cobra and the shaft is backordered until the end of the month, and instead of shipping me a full club and having me ship mine back, they're requiring I ship mine in (and be without a 9 iron) and swap shaft. not ideal.

I still LOVE mine. I'm a higher handicap (driver issues) but these irons are mostly point and shoot. Even bad shots go nearly as far as well struck shots. I can't fault these irons at all....and its really nice being on the dark side ;)

I love mine after a few rounds and a couple practice sessions. My only gripe is a huge yardage gap between P and G. But I can figure that out.

How’s the turf interaction on these?

Thinking of picking up a set soon.

Currently playing Z765s, but not convinced on the Vsole concept. Kinda big divots, and I wouldn’t consider myself real digger.

Curious if those who went with the Cobra Forged Tec in black are still happy with them?

Absolutely. Great irons. The finish is super durable as well.

I would certainly test them against the forged tec black, but the decision which to play is obviously going to depend on the results.

I played 18 holes last week in Hawaii with the all blacks and loved them. If I need irons I would definitely buy a set of them

Thanks for all the good feedback guys. I currently have the 790s with the Nippon 950 stiff shaft and I’m really liking those, but I was looking at the black tech Forged cobra irons one length in the 950 shaft as well, so I’m really excited to get these ordered. I’m even going to try the wedges as well and I’ve got the Ping black glide wedges and I love those, so we’ll see . I usually prefer the Nippon 105 or 130 shaft because I’m not a high ball hitter but when I got the TM790s with the 950 shaft, that is one of the smoothest balanced shafts I’ve ever hit. Would anybody know if you order a custom grip like the CP2 wrap, will they give you the Arcos sensors in the box to put on those on custom grips? Because if you get those with the clubs with Stocks grips, I know they throw in some for the rest your clubs! Now I don’t know if clubs are more expensive with the stock set up. I’ll have to reconfigure to see what comes out more because I only can figure it out one way with a different grip.
