Most UN-comfortable shoes?

Recommended Posts

Other thread on most comfortable shoes was a fun read...it seems that virtually all the shoe companies make great shoes these days...like everything, there will be a lot of individual preferences based on foot structure, size and gait.

However, I'd like to hear about our worst shoes.

I'm going with two:

1. A pair of leather Footjoy Classic wingtips, leather, all white, circa 1990. With no padding, no waterprotection, and leather soles, they were dreadful.

2. A pair of Ecco Street Men's Street Retro, Circa 2016. I had a pair of the original Freddie Ecco's from years back...loved them. These fit well, but gave me the worst blisters on my upper heel. They sent me some pads, but they were still awful. Actually walked barefoot a few times after 6-7 holes. Thought they would break in...they never did.

Pretty much any leather shoe made before 1996’ish. Hard leather with zero padding. Nothing but blisters and raw spots. If you didn’t use a shoe tree, the toes would curl up into elf shoes and the next time out, you had to jam your feet into them and wait for them to stretch.

I hate to say it but, FootJoy Classics. I wore them back in the early 2000's and don't remember them being too bad. However, I bought a pair recently and cannot walk more than 9 holes in them. I wish they were more comfortable because they are some of the best looking shoes that have ever been made.

Footjoy leather shoes were the worst. They look great but feel horrible. Never again.

The original Nike TW shoes from 2000s were awful

This. I bought one of the first pairs that were brown leather with a leather sole. Looked great but downright painful to wear with absolutely zero padding around the heel collar. Thankfully they didn't last long as the leather soles split after wearing them about 7 or 8 times. Complete waste of money.

Hilarious!

I actually bought a pair of Ecco Streets on clearance about that time, and they were easily the worst golf shoes I had ever owned. Turned me off Ecco golf shoes for a long time. Thankfully, I've since tried the Ecco Cage Pro and the new Hybrid Biom G3, so I know now that that particular model was an aberration. With all the love that most Ecco models get, I'm still not sure what could have gone so wrong with those ...

i had a pair of asics (similar to hideki's) that just turned evil. i dunno what happened, but the mid-heel lining came up and started jabbing into me. i was walking that day, and ended up limping up the 9th fairway with a bloody foot. no idea how it happened. couldn't see what it was either... when i took off the shoe and felt around there was nothing. mysterious. thankfully had a spikeless pair in the trunk and changed shoes at the turn.

threw those shoes right in the dumpster before exiting the course. awful.

Don't remember the model now, but my 2006 Myrtle trip was destroyed (worst heel and toe blisters of my life) by a pair of Nike's. Nike is dead to me.

My wife bought these clown shoes, it's like walking bare foot on rebar

I think those were meant for bowling?

Those would be clown shoes, had to give you the "like" on that one. lol

Years ago my wife brought home some golf clown shoes with the tassles, yes, i said tassles !! Thankfully they didn't fit, she said she couldn't return them !! So iʻm guessing some homeless guy is still wearing them minus the spikes. I told her they got stolen from the clubhouse locker. I left them on a curb.

ECCO generally does not fit my foot shape. Also Adidas tend to be uncomfortable as well. I like UA and to a lesser extent Nike.

I had a pair of Puma Club 917 a few years ago that looked slick, but were basically made out of plastic. They hurt my feet so bad, didn't breathe at all; just terrible all-round.

FJ Energize. I bought a pair online and wish now I would have returned them. Padding is fine but when I tie the laces tight I feel a ton of pressure on top of my foot. I have to loosen them up to be comfortable, but then hate walking on hills and stuff since they feel like they slip.

A pair of high-dollar Eccos. I can't remember the model, but they were of a fairly traditional saddle-shoe (black/white) pattern. Heel blisters, never broke in to be comfortable. Gave them about a dozen rounds and off they went to the donation pile.

Best comfort has been with Nikes in various styles that look more like athletic shoes. My main complaint about these is that they don't hold their waterproofing qualities for as long as I'd like.
