Mid-Handicappers: What Ball Do You Play?

EZCUSE

Recommended Posts

I love trying out new balls.

With that said, I try to keep a dozen under $30 USD.

Right now I play the Project (a) and I like them. They are a great price point at $27 USD on Amazon.

I am unwilling to step to a tour ball (Pro V1, Chomesoft) because I lose about 2-3 balls a round and it's just throwing my money down the drain.

I've played NXT Tour S, Q Star Tour, Snell MTB.

I like a softer ball but can't be too soft due to my swing speed. I would choose accuracy/feel over distance any day.

Any recommendation of balls I should try out?

On Thursdays, last year's Chrome soft can be had for $28 on Dicks website. A few others in your price point I would look into are:

Wilson FG Tour ($30 budgetgolf), MG C4 ($20, plays almost identical to ProV), and the Maxfli Ufli series.

Vice is the best deal on balls if you don't mind buying 5dz at a time. $25 a dozen if you buy 5.

Yup 2017 Chromesofts on Dicks for $29. I've been playing the Chromesoft X recently and really like it.

Project a for me but still contemplating switching to chromesoft. I found the 2018 project a spin less off the driver which is keeping me leaning that way. I don't have an official handicap but usually shoot high 80s low 90s

If I could settle on a single option I'd toss a firm suggestion but so far this year I've used -------- Project (a), Bridgestone B330RXS (used), Bridgestone e6 soft, Cut Grey, Srixon Q-Star & Snell Get Sum.

The used were just more of a trial --------- have a tough time thinking I could use them full time (big time mental thing with me)

I would second the TruSofts and also include the Gamer Softs and e/6 Soft. That being said I have a dozen Duo U's and 2 dozen KSigs to try out this year and do like some of the moderate spinning urethene balls like the old U/3.

I like the e6 soft but how would you or anybody that's played both compare them against each other?

We sound similar. For a long time I played the Project a. I've since played the Snell MTB Black, Snell Get Sum, and Srixon Q XV. I really like all of them. Just ordered some more Get Sums. I think this ball is overlooked, probably since it's not a urethane ball. But, I have shot my lowest scores with it as a mid-handicapper. I also pay attention to price...

Your search should end at the 2018 TaylorMade Project (a). Urethane ball for moderate swing speeds with great feel. You truly arent missing anything else that will be better at that price point since you are already playing them.

If you're a Costco member, you might want to take a look at their 3-piece urethane ball ($28.98 for 2 dozen, including shipping). While I haven't played them yet, many people are comparing them Chrome Softs.

So far, despite the fact that they are only available online, the availability of these balls appear to be more consistent than that of the 4-piece balls.

I find the e6 Soft and Gamer Soft to be identical - very good 3 piece Surlyn golf balls.

I was incredibly surprised by the Wilson Duo balls I tried on a whim last year. They feel great, as long as anything else I've hit, spin enough around the green.

For the price, I have ZERO issues with them. Absolute sleeper of a ball.
