What swing weight have yall seen in the stock M4? Where have you added lead tape?

As the title state, what swing weights have yall seen with the stock M4? I know the head is lighter than most at around 190-195 grams compared to 200-205 or what not.

I haven't gotten the SW of mine yet, but will soon. It seems extremely light, therefore I was going to add some lead tape but I haven't decided where. Where have yall?

To add - I am playing a HZRDUS Yellow and it is cut down to 44.5

I have an off-the-rack M4 with the "R" flex Atmos shaft. By my scale I get just a hair over D3 swingweight.

That's with the original stock grip installed. I'm guessing it would drop slightly with a normal-weight grip. The one that comes on there is like 47g instead of the usual 51-52g.

The Tour Velvet will probably add about 4g or so to the overall weight and reduce the swingweight by one point or a bit less, compared to the factory standard grip.

The M4 is overall going to be light no matter what the swingweight works out to. As you said, the head itself is very light.

Most of my drivers with mid-50's weight shafts and normal grips tend to be 310-315g overall weight. Can't remember exactly but my M4 is more like 302g or 304g, something like that. Not quite what I'd call ultralight but it's light.

If I didn't hit the thing so straight and so far I'd swap out the weight plug in the head and try to get up over 310g...but for now i don't want to mess with a good thing!

I just got a custom order made from TM after a recent fitting tent session locally. I went with the 12* M4 turned down to 10.5* so it sits 3* open with the Atmos Red 5S minus 1" for playing length of 44.75" with a standard GP Tour Wrap Blk (50gram grip). Of course, I knew it would come in lighter than the D3 that I wanted (my estimates were C8-9). It was exactly C9 minus this one inch. So I ordered the Billy Bobs 10gram replacement weight which comes with the torx tool bit to change the stock weight out and add the new 10gram weight. After the install which took 3.5 seconds, back on the swing scale it was and she sat at a perfect D3 with the BB 10gram weight at 44.75". No lead tape, clean, and a little blue lock tight and tighten and not too much tension on the screw down to avoid stripping and I am done! Check this out if you don't want lead tape.

Out of curiosity, why not get a club that already has the swing weight you want?

I wouldn't even put highlighter or margin notes in any of my textbooks back in the day, let alone have stuff stick to my clubs (whether I see it or not) so just wondering about the thought process.

Because TM are a bunch of morons who refuse to build a diver to a certain SW if you want something with a shorter shaft. Ping can do it, Titleist and Callaway as well. But its just too much bother for TM.

I doubt very much that you can custom-order an M4 from Taylormade and specify swingweight. But I may be wrong, I've never actually asked. Most OEM's just let swingweight fall where it will on custom-shaft, custom-length driver orders.

This is exactly truth.

Yeah, I have gone down that route a few times, not with TM actually and they never come in with what you order. I am just a small fish in a big pond ahaha.

Also, this M4 was a freebie from my company, so I didn't care about the specs.

I just ordered mine this morning and didn't realize it's 45.75" stock. What is the stock toe weight in the M4 or are people seeing different weights coming as stock? Not sure if I should order a 10g weight or just wait until my driver gets in and see what the weight in it is.

What length, shaft, and grip did you go with on your M4 driver order?

So I just found the shaft I was fit for on eBay for less than 1/3 of the quoted price new (the Aldila NV 2kvx Green X was to soft and I was hooking the ball quite a bit, big dispersion). I noted what you did but the shaft you used is 55 grams. The Rogue Elite Green I ordered is 65 grams and I ordered a MCC plus 4 52 gram grip and a BB 10 gram weight. I plan to play it 45". Any guess what the swing weight should be? Am I splitting hairs to think about ordering the non plus 4 MCC Golf Pride grip?

I have no golf stores within 120 miles and my only course does not have much if any equipment. I appreciate any help.

If you are thinking of getting a grip that doesn’t suit you in order to trick the swingweight scale into reading one point different then don’t do it. Totally awful idea. The fact that “swingweight” measurement is affected by grip weight is a flaw in the way it is measured.

A one point change in SW due to a heavier/lighter grip does not feel anything like a one point change in SW due to clubhead or shaft weight. The swingweight scale is designed to quantify “feel” of a club but it assumes a standard 50-ish gram grip weight.

Yeah, that's a very good point. Definitely overthinking this, I'll keep the grips the same. Thanks.

M4's are so easy to Hotmelt &/or replace the weight screw.

Remember the OEM Shaft length is 45.75 so if you cut it to 45 you will lose at least 1.5 points. Same goes with replacing the grip since TM uses a grip that is around 47 grams.

3/4” is around 4 points, not 1.5
