I play in a weekly 9 hole scramble

If we play 2 putts the possible score doubles and if you chip in or putt from the fringe that counts as two putts

Good 6 man teams can go pretty low

Lots at stake, you can win two balls each

There is also a blind draw, so everybody gets a chance

I have no idea what most of this means.

Was it a string tournament?

First thing that came to mind was string.... and a lot of it!

I played in this tournament. Par 5 18th is a dogleg right with water on both sides. Wind was blowing hard in and off the left. The windmill was clocked at 133 RPM - couldn't get through on the first shot with 4 cracks at it. Winners made a 1, we made a 3. Rub of the green I guess...

So tired trying to make sense of these posts. This weekend (3 rounds) 11 golfers all 7-12 HC and 5 (maybe 6) total birdies.......

So nearly 600 holes between them and only 5 or 6 birdies? that's very low

A little low, but pretty much the norm for us. Heck I got 2 birdies in 3 rounds, which is good for me...... One low HC'er has been off, but got 2 yesterday..... As said tired of reading all these 10HC'ers saying 3/round is the norm. Just not with my circle of golfers.

Same with the golfer who states that he usually chips one in every round.

Something we agree on... no one chips in once a round.

With a score like that, the "solution" is very simple - Treat it like you would a criminal investigation.

Interview each of the members of the foursome separately and focus on the "suspect" holes (pretty much all of the eagles).

"On (hole x), whose drive did you use?"

"Did you drive the green or make a hole out from off the green?"

If the latter, then "who holed out? And from what side of the green and what yardage?"

Repeat as necessary. If their stories match up, then either they had the round of their lives, or they are some seriously conniving bastards.

Heck I've never seen lower then -16........

Why anyone would for a second think it is legit boggles the mind.

There has to be other rules involved. I have played a few scrambles with string€ and €œred tee bombers.€ Say you have 5 feet of string and someone hits a shot inside of a foot. They can use the length of the string to count that as a hole out until the string is gone. Also the red tee bomber would be someone teeing off from the ladies tees on a par 5 which makes it easier. And do not forget about mulligans. 41 is very questionable but I would not say impossible. I had a team with the same format I just mentioned and we shot 46 with a few shots that we still left out there. It i€™s possible. Just very hard to do.

Edit- Also just saw all the other posts about string. Without string and only 1 mulligan per player, it is impossible to shoot 41. There i€™s no way. 48 is doable.. not 41.

It means your putter never leaves the bag.

I recently wrote about a similar scramble tournament winning score, and others have posited the same opinion that I have regarding scrambles: Get your buddies together to have a fun time and donate money to a good cause. Buy raffle tickets, enjoy the lunch and don't even think about winning unless you are willing to cheat. And, don't get too upset when you see impossibly low scores from the "winners" because you know it is going to happen. The only way to avoid it is to have a marker with every group or play in 8-somes.

I’ve never seen anything like that if it’s of adequate length and no other special circumstances. I’m in Oklahoma(coincidence), just played a 4-man scramble fundraiser for our local high school football team, 4 mulligans a piece. No other “deals”. We won with a 48(par 72-6700 yds). 7 eagles, 10 birdies, 1 par. A +2, myself, a 6-9 capper, and a 12. Funny thing is we won by 1 vs a group of sponsors who all can’t break 80?

Yeah, no way. Unless like others have said and there were odd rules or unlimited mulligans, no way they shot a 41.

Played in a Korean Community shotgun tournament. Had to put down a handicap, which I went with zero. Shot 2 over on a really difficult course because the trade winds were around 20-30mph all afternoon. Come in and some folks had shot -24, -27, -31. I just couldn't believe a 20 handicapper shooting 7 under. Like where's the fun in that? Come to find out my FIL had put down he shot 5 under, with a 16 handicap, so it netted him like -13 under, when I know he shot well over 90 that day. On the way out I checked the scoreboard one last time, and I was the only person to have shot over par. In a tournament of over 90 people.

Does anyone come to ANY scramble expecting to win? I’ve played these things forever and I just come to contribute to a charity or hang out with some friends.

At the end of just about every one of these tournaments there’s all this hand wringing about “there’s no way these shot x, what BS, and on and on”.
