Taylormade Tour Preferred MC Irons '12 or '15

So I have been playing around with the taylormade tour preferred MC's from 2011-12, depending on how you view the release date.

Have just stumbled across a set of the tour preferred MC's from 14-15.

The one set has project x 5.5 flighted, the other rifle precision 5.5 flighted. so basically the newer model of the same shaft

any feedback anyone has on preferences of either?

would be greatly appreciated.

I played the MC's that came out in 2014 and think they are some of the best irons they have made in recent memory along with the MBs from 2014.

I’ve not hit the 2012’s but I’ve head about the. Bring some of the softest irons TM has made. As for the 15’s they are a great iron. J.B Holmes has played them forever and still might be? They are a great minimal offset players cavity

I would play ‘12’s again if I could find a new set, probably favorite at that time before and after for a players cavity that TaylorMade offered. Got me running to the bay now....have a 6,7 in garage I hit balls with still. Def an easier compact club to hit nice.

That being said, I know some others liked the second offering, I wasn’t a fan. Was back to mizzy (64’s) the end of TMAG for me. Those and r7 425. (That I truly liked; around 7 years ago)

I was in between the 14-15's or the Mizuno MP-59s for a long, long time. I really loved the MCs quite a bit, but I was able to find a set of the Mizuno's at a much lower price point so that helped my decision. If the MCs had been a little cheaper, I would have 100% grabbed them. I still find myself looking on eBay from time to time to see if any good sets are still out there.

I might just have a set of '14 TM MC irons (3-PW) with X100's gathering dust if anyone is interested...

I have a brand new set of the 12's in my basement from my ho'ing days. I think the 7 or the 8 has only seen the range for a couple of ball strikes.

I have a set of these, but find it funny seeing them referred to as "compact." I find them a bit on the larger side.

Perspective, I guess. Golden Rams and Muirfields to the MCs can do that. LOL

I have some but have yet to hit them...

coming from Maxfli Revolution blacks (a larger iron), the 2011/2 MC's are a little more compact, but still good size compared to other blades as I understand.

It will be interesting to note the relative softness of the 2011/2 MC's compared to the famously soft Maxfli Revolution Blacks Nickel plating.

Anyone else made that transition before?

Maxfli Revolution Blacks to 2011/2 TM TP MC's?

I'll try FPAing to both in my next round, later in the weekend (I'd put the MC's in the bag already anyway).

I'll do the same at some point, put in maybe the 6 and 9 TP MC's into my maxfli revolution set

Dare I ask what FPA is?

shafts are pretty close

Maxfli Revolution blacks are DGS300 Unitized (descending weight)

2011 TM TP MC's are DGS300 taper tipped (constant weight) soft stepped by 1 (seems to have been standard TM practice for the TP MC in 2011/2012).

FPA = f---ing pay attention. :)

FWIW my MC set is DGS400, no stepping (I did the work myself). The 3-PW Revs are DGR, which is part of why I haven't played them, haven't gotten around to reshafting them. The 1 iron has 370 DGS400, tipped slightly more than standard recommended tipping.

What would be a modern equivalent for the 2011/2012 MC

Any other brand with a Similar shape

I loved that the MC was a perfect “tweener” not to big or small, not too much offset and not too thin or thick topline and good balanced looking shape

i mean iron technology has had very few quantifiable innovations since the way back year of 2012.

id be curious why youd want to find an iron that looks just like one from 5 years ago?

just find a set of that one.

theyre super cheap.

Have you been doing some furtive ho'ing, NRJ? I didn't know you had those, just some EYE2s and lots and lots and lots of Golden Rams. A whole flock of Rams, in fact.

The Revs have been just sitting in a bag for a few years, I've never used them. They have DGR, need a reshaft before trying them. I picked up the MC's a couple years ago. Have played them a few rounds, then set them aside. They were something of an impulse purchase. I'm largely chasing launch conditions with them, seeing if they provide me anything I don't get with my usual sticks. So far, they haven't done much for me, honestly, other than let me hit a 3 iron where I used to hit a 1i or 2i, thanks to the stronger lofts.

I'd been playing my Muirfields just prior, feel I was hitting those better, but want to give the MC's a fair chance. Now that my 80 Tour Grinds are back from being loft and lie adjustment, though, it's harder to keep the MC's in the bag. Had the Rams bent to weak lofts that would make the 27* 6i crowd break out in hives, LOL, want to get them on the course. They need new grips before I can play them, also.

Too many choices, I guess.

I should be picking up my 4, 5 and 8 irons after having been shafted up.

That will give me a complete set of 2011 MC's with DGS300 softstepped by one.

No grips yet, so I'll butt trim (probably try 3/8" gaps) and check swingweights (will try with progressive SW's) before taking back to local shop for grip install.

I've got too many sets of Maxfli Revolutions and TM 2011/2012 MC's.
