Smylee Kaufman tracker

Pat du Golf

Recommended Posts

I was fortunate to be in his group two years ago.

Although he is very talented ball striker, one single bad shot or putt derails his round very quickly.

He is his own WORST critic.

On one hole, He pulled a tee shot, lost a ball and double putt......

he wasn’t the same player for the next 16 holes..... frowning all morning, etc....

As an outsider, I felt for him.

He will be an HOF If he can balance his emotion on the course...... ton of talents

My opinion

Trying to rebuild your game on tour must just be an awful feeling.

It is

Go on.

My game slipped out of my control last 18 months of my tour career. Helpless feeling.

Maybe he'll come back...

What do you say his chances are (based on your experience)?

I'm sorry but I don't care how mentally strong Smylie gets, he will never be a HOF'er.

15 missed cuts total..11 straight missed cuts..dead last in SG total and tee to green...just in a slump man

Starting on the PGA Tour in the 2015-2016 season after getting his card including this week Smylie has played in 72 tour events. He made the cut in his first 8 starts (5 in 2015/ 3 in 2016). Since then he has missed the cut in 38 of his next 64 starts. That's more than a slump.

Given his youth, I’d say chances are good. Just as long as he doesn’t change his swing constantly looking for a cure

Who is Smylie Kaufman? Is he that doofus that was hanging out with two big PGA stars on that Spring Break trip a couple years ago?

It's unfortunate that struggling players can't go down web or euro tour to at least be competitive. He is just playing to play and use up his exemption.

They can. Lanto Griffin did it this week and is in 2nd place right now. Stephan Jaeger did it two weeks ago and won. Happens all the time.

Smiley's problem is bigger than that though. If he could go down to the NCAA he wouldn't even be competitive there, in current form.

Except it's a confidence thing. A guy like Kaufman goes to the web tour and feels he's better than those guys because he's a tour player. In reality you need to shoot the same scores to do well on the web as on the regular tour. The big tour is deeper and the players are more consistent but the winning scores would likely not be much lower if the top players played the web.com.

Except if you are eligible for the current PGA Tour event based on your priority ranking you can not play down to the Web.com event in the same week. This week Jaeger was 13th alternate at Colonial. Griffin wasn't even listed on the alternate list by the PGA Tour. He ranks below Jaeger out of his playing category. Two weeks back at the Players Jaeger didn't even make the alternate list. Jaeger and Griffin had no choice. Smylie is ranked high enough that he can not play down due to his win during the 2015-2016 wrap around season. Tour exempt category 9. Jaeger/Griffin are in exempt category 26.

The attachments are from the PGA Tour media web site.

As are many others. Why wouldn't you if you are exempt on the PGA Tour and can't play down to the Web.com tour? As for the Euro Tour he won't get any appearance fees to play there, considering his name, world ranking and difficulty breaking 80, and why go there if it won't help you stay exempt on the PGA Tour?

Lanto and Steve would not have gone near those 2 Web events if they were eligible to play in the PGA events the same week. It happens because that week player x doesn't have good enough status to get him the the Tour event.

No one ever plays for $550k instead of $7 Mil. ..never.

Based on what I read and heard from players on tv, they should be playing a limited schedule based on courses they feel they will do good and be well rested. Beau Hossler said he won’t play more then 3 weeks in a row and he is way young. My favorite player Tommy Gainey did the same thing played too much and flamed out.
