Who makes the best 5 wood?

Is there such a thing as a best 5-wood? Or is it just a matter of opinions? I think the latter.

All 5 woods will perform pretty much the same. If you like your 917F3, I would start out trying an F2 5 wood with the same shaft. It will be the most like your 3 wood, in looks and feel, but it should be easier to hit off the deck.

i have been looking at the F2 to start however don't want to limit my options... some 5 woods look very closed and upright so i doubt they all perform pretty much the same.

 

If you’re worried about a closed face angle, you could consider a higher lofted adjustable club and turn the loft down, which opens the face angle.

V steel is the best fairway woods ever made. Not the longest, but the best blend of playability off the deck and tee.

Don't worry about all the newer stuff. The best 5 wood ever made was the Taylormade V-steel. 18 degrees.

Yes, VSteel 5W is GOAT. I used to have it as my driver when, I was a kid just starting out. If I were to pick the all time greatest 5 Woods, I would say: 1. VSteel, 2. Ping K15, 3. TEE XCG5, 4. Ping G25 4wood, 5. Adams T2L Ti.

 

But for Cliffhanger’s use, just match the set with a used 910 5W. It was the last year they made them in lefty.

I bought into the WRX hype and ordered a f6 baffler and play it at 17.5* a few months all... I suspect it'll be in the bag for a long while

TEE fairways are reliably neutral in my experience. Pick the head shape you like, and the Ti face ones are all hot with med/low spin.

 

Callaway's recent Pro models play a bit open and launch with low spin when paired with a good shaft.

aeroburner 5 wood..... Forgiving and loooooooong. I got it for $30 too. I don't think you'll find a better combo of performance and price.

I'm getting a new 5 wood and I've got it down to Epic SZ, JPX 900, ST 180, G400.

 

I came over from a 915 F and prefer the feel and sound of the JPX 900 fairway. Speeder shaft is awesome that comes standard.

I've been in the market for a 5 wood, and I made the mistake of only looking at the new models. None of them really fit my eye how I wanted. I started digging. XHot, X2Hot, XR(16). I ended up with an 18* GBB Alpha 815.

I own a lot of fairway woods, and some are very easy to hit and others just require to much to get airborne. I just picked up a GBB 2015 5 wood to give it a try and it has taken the #1 spot. I did knock it down an 1/4 inch and down 2 degrees as well. Super easy to elevate, and it goes straight. The only club close is the G25. I would like to try the XR16 again, maybe I missed something. I am not a big hitter, but went 197 yards with the GBB 5 wood, and that is amazing. The trajectory is what really gets me, not to high, and long. Yes, I have the M2, and various TEE offerings as well, but the GBB gets the nod. I have a problem fading the G25, or it would have stayed in the bag as it is very easy to elevate. These clubs are not that expensive so it is a very good buy. Mine has the Kuro Kage 50 G shaft, and it looks great.

I have this weird thing about fairway woods and I think other people do too. I bought an Aeroburner 5W from eBay basically because I wanted the shaft. It was just an AD DI 7S. The first thing I noticed when I got it was the strike pattern was about the size of a quarter center face a touch high. Clearly this was a pretty good ball strikers club. I game the thing and it felt great. Like someone who builds clubs built this. For all I know it could’ve just been a TM standard, but when I swing weighted it, it was consistent. I joke with my buddies about certain clubs having swing DNA In it or some GoT reference about velyrian steel but I swear fairways and putters are the most feel based clubs in the bag for me.

 

Somewhere out there I’m thinking a guy is wishing he could have his 5W back

 

Short answer: find a used Aeroburner TP 5W with your shaft of choice and pray it was forged by a strike of lightning.

I'd played 18* heads for years, but after switching to a HL 3 wood head and adjusted down to 15.5*, I tried the same with a 21* HL SLDR 5 wood head, cranked it down to 20*, and it's been magic. I actually carry it 3-5 yards longer than the lower lofted clubs, and it is, of course, easier to launch.

I did the same with mine and cranked it down 2* to 20 as well. A lot easier to get off the deck and still plenty long.

... As already stated no "best" just what works "best for me". I have always struggled with fairway woods but the F8 changed that. So solid in sound and feel, great trajectory and a perfect not too small and not too big head size. The fact that I can dial the loft up or down has been awesome and I have settled in at 17*. Paired with an Even Flow Blue 75 it has been a real game changer for me.

Your right, all swings are different. Some want more height(love it,) and others want less spin, no thanks. Some want it to draw and others want a fade.
