Who makes the best 5 wood?

i have always looked at the Ping G series as draw enhancing woods, thats why i have stayed away from them. i had played the I series but thats it.

 

You game a G series wood i take it so...

does your fairway wood flight stay consistent with the rest of your clubs?

My G25 5 wood never sees the left side of the fairway. That is why it got replaced.

Don't worry about all the newer stuff. The best 5 wood ever made was the Taylormade V-steel. 18 degrees.

I agree. But then again, I've only carried one 5w in my life and it was a V-Steel 18° with DG X100 steel shaft and it was amazing. Was it THE best... probably not, but it's all I really ever tried hitting and loved it.

 

Be prepared when asking this question because the recommendations will most likely be biased to what people have in their bags...nobody make a best anything.

i thought that it went without saying that by asking this question i was asking for opinions. 99.9% of the content on this site is based on opinion no?

i have a chance at getting a deal on the rogue 5 wood... but most likely would replace the three wood too maybe if it works out. I did hit one with the even flow shaft and it was quite good. i was kinda leaning more towards the 17 M1.

Just as I thought, you have heard about 30 different models of 5 wood that are the best, usually it's the one the golfer has in their bag. Most golf clubs manufactured today are very capable clubs and would suit any golfer. I think the best way to go is buying a nice used one or a one that is a year old on sale. I feel like I could play with any set of woods given a slight bit of practice and feeling out, because I think most clubs today are very playable.

And of course sound and feel can play a role as well. I have always struggled with Exotics as they launch too low for my swing. Finding the right fw isn't easy and the reason we see so many different models listed on this thread. But once you finally dial in the right one, it usually stays in the bag as long or longer than other clubs.

just to be clear I wasn't looking for simply... (insert OEM here) makes the best 5 wood. What I was looking for was some opinions as to what works best for you guys, then followed up with some info as to why. The "as to why" part is the critical part in the equation. Then I would take that info and see if I could apply it to my game in a hope that this would help me make my decision. I am sure there is no one here that can say that blah blah blah makes the best 5 wood without using 100% opinion and 0% fact (at least in a general sense)... I do appreciate all of the responses guy!!

This is gonna sound like a complete cop out of an answer but considering 5 wood is typically a club one looks for a discreet distance and ball flight, not looking to hit it for distance sake, I d say all the current generation 5 woods are great. Just a matter of what fits your eye and specs you’re looking for.

It is my favourite club as well, so easy to hit from anywhere. F6 baffler hybrids are on closeout, might have to snap one up.

The Cobra Fly-Z Plus 5 wood is the best I've hit. (I have the 3 wood too).

Last year I bought an F6 Baffler to see what the talk was about and I ended up selling it after a couple months. It's probably because it had the wrong shaft in it, but every so often a wicked hook would show its face, and I don't even play a draw.

 

My 5 wood hunt has lasted quite a while, and the Cally BB Alpha 815 is the ticket. The head size is perfect, not like these new 5 woods that look like 3 woods. It probably isn't the longest out there, but that's not what my 5 wood is for. I also have the Alpha 816 5 wood, which is slightly bigger, but still a great club that's easy to elevate. The 815 with its smaller head is easier to hit out of nasty lies.
