PXG - It's About Time to give them a try

I have my longest iron in my bag a PXG...a 4 iron.

It is S-O forgiving. Pretty weird but even a chunked shot or thin or whatever ends up 10-15 yards from the green.

i MIGHT get a 5-iron.

The 4 iron is NOT soft...solid on good shots but not as soft even as my forged cavity back Mizuno MP-25's.

I've come to the conclusion that feel is relative....now, I don't care so much about feel (except in my wedges) but forgiveness is #1 by far in my book.

The PXG has that in spades.

TM M2 driver (2016)
TM M2 3 and 5 woods (2017)
PXG 19 degree
Mizuno MP 25, 4-9 (about to change)
Miura CB-57 PW
Miura wedges, 53 and 59, Y grind

I wish that the PXG Site Administrator could invent a program that when the PXG haters/trolls start ragging on PXG -- in any forum they find with the name "PXG" in it -- it would take whatever they write and suck it into some vortex, black hole.

Here's an original poster, excited about a brand, he's even hit them well, and these posers want to rain on his parade.

I agree 100% either they have scorpions in their pockets, or are haters.

OP: if you can swing it, GET THEM. I dunno about you but I like hitting 190yd 6 irons. Feel is great. And the new $ Taper shafts from KBS are unreal!

I had the Gen 1s and the ball speed was consistently 3-5 miles an hour off of the club face

I'll be secretly tracking their handicap change over the next 12 months :)

why? you sound like a fun guy to play with.

It's none of your business if they like to try new clubs.

You're right, I am fun. I've been part of the same fun group for 2 decades and busting each others chops is one of our hallmarks, including guys whom are always buying new clubs (also inevitably selling what didn't work out for them). Sorry if you don't have friends that close.

If i golfed with guys who secretly kept track of my HC whenever I bought new stuff I would find new guys to golf with.

This would get annoying I agree....my group knows I like changing equipment and that’s that. No one cares....if I had to “hear it” from my regulars every weekend I’d get annoyed....granted they always want to try what I have in my bag, and that’s fine...

but back to topic, I’ve had my PXG’s, and they are nice, feel good...I like the look, but also like a nice set of MIZZY’s or 718 CB’s bagging now. But my handicap didn’t say any different. I’d like to know what people have seen the biggest change and how much, and is it because they were finally fit for a set of irons? And would probably achieve same results fit with another OEM...or Bob really makes magic happen??

IMO a putter that works great for you will move your cap the most if that’s your goal

Do you guys not have a friend group where you bust on each other a lot? These are his longtime friends we’re talking about who all participate in it. Me and my friends talk smack about each other’s bad shots and equipment(like different company’s) all the time and we both know it’s purely just to bust each other’s chops.

Relax people lol

Not a PXG hater here, like the look and would love to give them a hit sometimes, my only knock is when someone starts talking about and referring to the cor2 stuff as goo it kind of a turn off to think that there is “goo” in my irons. Just something personal to me but that wouldn’t stop me, just a little something that comes to mind.

That being said,

Those are identical numbers to my JPX900 Forged 7i. Don’t remember my 7i swing speed but my driver SS is 100 and my 7i is my 172-177 club. I agree this is impressive!(for our irons) Lol but they aren’t the only ones doing it!

Sounds like a strategy used in places like North Korea.

WTH is that about ? To all these post's saying " friends got fit and then are worse 3 months later " sounds like some of you don't like the price of them, canʻt afford them and or canʻt hit them. If i got fitted for them and didnʻt hit them any better than my current setup and could afford them. Iʻd throw them in the bag, badass looking clubs.

I don't like the price of them.

I can't afford them.

I have hit them and don't hit them any better or any worse than my current clubs.

I play with 5-6 guys who have them and none of them have seen any improvement in their game whatsoever.

And if by badass, you mean fugly, then I agree with you. They are badass :taunt:

But like I always say, just because you agree with me doesn't mean you are smart. And just because you disagree with me doesn't mean you are stupid. And vice-versa.

Way over priced as I know they are some nice clubs but 4X the price of what they are worth. Every top rated professional golfer who has made the switch has dropped in their rankings, why is that? For those who have them you better keep them for life as I would hate to eat crow after spending so much money and not improving in my game over my last set of PINGS, Callaway, TaylorMade, Mizzy's or any other brand that you may have switched from.

Stating the obvious here...Lessons and a solid practicing routine with any new club should improve your game...Unless you're LOFT...Just buying A,B or C brand and not getting coaching or practicing will result is the same old or worse results...There is no magic stick...

Well it should help with solid practicing but I'm just curious as to why it has not help with any of the Professionals who have made the switch. They are definitely a conversation piece as looks are in the eye of the beholder. I would gladly go with a set of TM P790's over the PXG's as maybe that is why Parson is so upset with TM and tried his best to sue TM but failed.

It’s your money, spend it however you’d like - always, but at the very least, understand what it is you’re buying.

I just got a used set of 0311T shafted with Steelfiber 110s.... I will say, they do look nice down by the ball. They offer great feel and feedback and do seem to be a little longer than most other irons I have been playing recently. With that said, I have not been really WOWED like I expected to be since I have had them out on the course. They are good, not earth shattering great. I can appreciate the tech and the design overall but I was hoping to see something that justifies the price point... I may as I keep playing them but right now, I just don't see it.

just what I thought, no one can explain why? simple question. Don't compare clothes to golf clubs as that doesn't even make sense Chief. I'm only saying there are way too many people thinking by spending more it will help their game as they buy into the hype. I'm not disagreeing with anyone if they have a single digit handi cap playing PXG's as they were probably there before anyone ever bought from PXG. Buying PXG won't make you a better golfer either but explain to me why every professional has drop in their rankings as I don't understand why. I never said clubs ever made a professional worse but what's happening to them???? Oh and Chief I'm not trying to give you or anyone any insight as to how you were able to make it in life. When buying such expensive equipment it comes to be expected from others to give those who play PXG a hard time especially when playing for money in tournaments.

James Hahn and Pat Perez say 'hi' - amongst others.

Horschel and Zack both had silly good seasons just before going to PXG, that could only lead to them dropping in the OWGR subsequently.

Fair enough you don't like a certain brand, but misrepresenting facts doesn't help your argument.

I just don't think they are worth the asking price as everything is getting so expensive. This is just setting the bar for other companies to follow as I know Titliest has a driver that cost over a grand and the C16 irons are $375 per club then Callaway has the Epic Star as I just don't get it. I think everyone on these forums are guilty of over spending as I know I'm very guilty as I have paid a lot for some of my putters.

I'm glad for those who own a set of PXG's I'm sure they enjoy them as they are nice just Wow! I would get a set of Epon's, Miura's, Honma's or some other JDM set of irons and still have money left over to buy an expensive putter Lol! It just seems like its mostly people who own a set of PXG's get the most defensive when someone say's anything negative as This is all out of fun as it's fun to bust someones chops about there equipment especially playing against them as I'm not bashing the equipment as much as I am the cost of the equipment.

I don't think most will disagree with you on price, but obviously there is a market for them just as there are for Scotty's $10k putters.... do those putters do anything better??? Do they even hold their value??? I'm sure arguments can be made either way but at the end of the day, people are buying them... maybe not you, or me, but there is obviously a market for this high priced gear even if you think there shouldn't be. Everyone will spend their money differently so if one can afford to splurge on this stuff, then more power to them. I don't disagree this stuff is expensive but I also don't understand the never-ending complaining about it by some people. You could walk into Target and buy the box set of Ram or Wilson clubs for a fraction of what you can get a set of Callaway or Taylormade irons for.... should we do that? For all we know, our scores probably wouldn't change much overall.

AMEN! I don't have a set of PXGs but I never really understood the argument that it won't decrease your handicap so why spend the money. Buying a new driver every year, or getting that fancy Scotty won't lower your handicap either yet people still buy new s***, why because its fun to try new stuff in hopes it makes them better. I could care less if PXG makes me better or not as long as "I" can afford it, like the feel, like to looks, and fits me then spend that money if you got it and won't to.

  • 4 weeks later...

can somebody directly compare the 0311T irons to AP2?

Just got into a set of 714 AP2s after returning the Gen 1 0311Ts... These are very similar irons to me, but I am finding the AP2 better through the turf and misses less punishing. Feel is comparable between the two with maybe the 0311T getting the nod for looks down by the ball. The PXGs look fantastic, but performance wise were underwhelming for me. The AP2 have always been pretty trustworthy for me.
